its always bothered me that...

during the 'miss twin peaks' festivities, events swap between the roadhouse, and the great northern...surely logically, all events would be held in the great northern, since it is a hotel with dedicated function rooms??

PLus, the big one...WHY USE THE ROADHOUSE AS A COURTHOUSE??   Why not use the TOWN HALL??! (from Pilot)....i know this may be due to filming practicalities, or attempts to make TP 'wacky', but it just doesn't seem sensible..

LOL Yeah, I always found it silly that they used the Roadhouse as the courthouse. The town is big enough to have a full-on hospital, but they have to hold court in a bar? Methinks Judge Sternwood just liked the sauce a little too much... :)

The Town Hall is the least moody set. Even the hospital has the creepy blue freezer the One Armed Man disappears in. Screw using that. Roadhouse has red curtains and logs all over, and is thus infinitely useable!

Let's just say that the Town Hall was occupied those times by city council and they were having a Ghostwood zoning meeting or something, maybe talking about Native American fishing rights as outlined in old treaties being infringed upon (by Pete Martell, since that WA beach is Indian land.)

And let's say the Great Northern was booked up for weddings and conventions.

Use your imagination! I sincerely hope beauty pageants and Laura Palmer case-related court hearings are less important than the greater political issues (and social events) going on.

In a boring courthouse Sternwood can't offer Harry and Coop Black Yukon Sucker Punches while deliberating...

yeah, and the courthouse was a location used when the pilot was filmed in washington.

oh wait, I keep forgetting at the time, the Roadhouse wasn't seen until like half a year later.  I always forget that since it's become so iconic.  Same with Julee Cruise.  At the time, I was going holy shit they're back at that bar in the first episode again.  Or holy shit, Julee Cruise is back.  Or even better, woah -Mike Nelson is back.

It never bothered me though because the show is so stylized anyway; it's fantasy, not reality.  And by the way, FBI Agents don't work alone also -they always work in pairs.

They DO work in pairs, but because of Earle, Coop briefly (pre peaks) became a gruff, heavy drinking, no nonsense agent   "Coop, you can't go out on the field alone! Ya gotta have a partner!"    "No Cole...I work alone. Ever since.....Earle...Caroline- I mean Carolyn.  I don't need the guilt on my mind"- as Coop walks out into the rain, donning a fedora and a Camel cigarette

"Miss Twin Peaks" was a charity (or at least non-profit) event, I'm guessing. The Great Northern would have charged for the space, while the Roadhouse probably let them have it for free, on the theory that the audience would buy lots of food and drinks.... Let's assume the Town Hall was being painted at the time.... I think Albert was supposed to be Cooper's pair, but he had to do his evidence testing back at HQ.

The question is, Where have you gone?

Even the smallest population 1500 towns in Iowa have a courthouse if they are the county seat.  Maybe Twin Peaks wasn't the county seat.  But yeah, I agree with the theory that Judge Sternwood wanted to be close to the sauce.  I think Cooper would have preferred to hold court in the Double R with the coffee and pie.
