Wow, that is hugely disappointing. Did this really need a countdown??

This is absolutely brilliant news, thanks Jerry! Already have my name down for it.

Why are people slating this? Seriously this is good news, any other fan community would be ecstatic about this. I suspect people had probably built it up in their heads to be something along the lines of a full FWWM release or something. As Jerry in the archive notes 'the creators are very aware of the significance of the date' in regards to the 20th anniversary, this is hopefully the first a handful of new Twin Peaks stuff for 2010.

I'm only being negative because in the Comments section of the countdown, when we were guessing (foolishly) that it could be Complete BluRay sets and things like that, Jerry replied 'good guess', instead of bringing us back down to Earth.

Posters on the Dugpa board have been grousing about the supposedly 'negative' reaction to the Paula K Shimatsu-U book at the Twin Peaks Gazette. I'm not a member or I'd have pointed out that people are unhappy about Jerry Horne's countdown rather than the hypothetical release of the hypothetical book itself.

If Twin Peaks fans seem hard to please it's probably due to the sheer number of tentative Twin Peaks related projects that have been discussed and subsequently shelved over the years, from a rumoured directors cut of FWWM on laserdisc to Kyle Maclachlan talking about continuing Twin Peaks online.

I saw this coming when Jerry Horne removed all references to the 'lost photos' from Dugpa. Watching people get excited about his announcement was like watching a car crash in slow motion. I literally flinched reading the thread. Fortunately I'm not one to kiss arse and pander to people 'in the know' so I sat this one out, although the prospect of shrieking "Oh Jerry please let it be Twin Peaks: The Musical" had a certain grisly charm. Fan boy yes, psychopath no.

I'm 100% behind the book and will buy multiple copies, providing it has a large enough print run to do so, but it needs to be marketed properly. It needs a website and a marketing company, not Jerry Horne doing a head count of people who might like to buy a copy.

Regardless, I think it's a great idea. I know many of us have seen some of these photos and they are great photos.

For the record, I highly doubt we'll see a blu-ray release of TP anytime soon. Blu-ray pressing technology has to get cheaper before that will happen, IMO.

I'm never surprised by anyone's reaction to anything in the TP community as I've found that the vast majority of TP fans are never completely happy with what they're getting. Honestly, with as many people as have shit themselves over Paula's photos over the years, I expected a little more excitement but am not surprised by the disappointment.

I'm shooting over an e-mail as this is something I've looked forward to for a loooooong time. Paula talked about doing a book of sorts when she was at the festival two years ago and having seen many of her photo albums via Josh E., I know we're in for a treat.

I'm curious about the name Shimatsu-U? Is she the daughter of or married to some guy called Mr. U? What's the deal?

All I'm asking about is a little tangible information.

How many are limited and numbered?  Is this Paula's book or Jerry's?

Seems like there was a lot of smoke with this countdown, but I'm not seeing the fire just yet.

Your mileage will obviously vary.

In considerable defence of the Dugpa board, here is the sole grouser from over there. Slight disappointment is fine, the fact we're only getting a bit postive now about it in this thread is still... ridiculous. :P But let's not detract from the announcement, it's a great, great product; and how awesome is it we're getting something new Twin Peaks-related 2010? It's a cause for huge celebration.

I'm guessing it's limited to the number of people who register their interest.
Unless they have a company backing them, which the OP said nothing about.

I, for one, can imagine very few things that would be more exciting for T.P. fans than this book. The thing is, blu-ray will happen, more interviews are bound to be on a new dvd set, perhaps even a few more deleted scenes. But holy shit! An ENTIRE BOOK of tons and tons of never before seen PHOTOS FROM THE SET OF TWIN PEAKS! I feel so damn lucky that Jerry, Paula and crew have worked so hard to make these photographs available for us all. I've been lucky enough to have seen some of these little wonders and believe me, they fucking rock! The release of this book is the most exciting Twin Peaks news since the Gold Box and, to me, well worth the countdown. I can't wait to have this treasure in my hands! Thank you Jerry Horne!

I imagine when the book was announced there was massive disappointment among people who thought they were getting Fire Walk With Me deleted scenes, 30 hours of online content, a Twin Peaks bedding range, or whatever else it is folk are hankering after nowadays. In considerable defence of the people (all one... two... possibly three of them) who didn't fall to their knees weeping with gratitude, it was the delivery of the news rather than the book itself that they were criticising (from what I've read anyway).

When not criticising Twin Peaks products people on the board criticise Twin Peaks actors, Twin Peaks fans, gays, people from Manchester... i could go on and on. That's not a Twin Peaks thing, it's an internet thing. A few of the people on this board are dolls but to be brutally honest I'd mace half the people on here as soon as look at them and I have zero interest in whether they buy the book or not. i've spent a psychotic amount of money collecting stills that aren't particularly rare so I don't need to know what's inside this book to be mad with excitement. Some people will agree and some won't but you're not going to change their minds and nor should you feel you have to.

As for celebrating, I'm sure everyone will party like it's 1999 once they know the book's going to be printed and that they're able to get their hands on a copy. Non-deluxe coffee table books cost between £40 and £100 and deluxe ones with small print runs can cost hundreds. This book is going to need massive support from the fans.

WANT! A Twin Peaks book with nice and pretty pictures from Twin Peaks? That are RARE? Yes, please. Those albums at the fest rocked beyond belief--was blown away by those.  Plus my Twin Peaks book collection would feel lonely without this...and how could I deprive them of that? ;)

I'm not being negative because I'm some kind of compulsive hater that doesn't have anything better to do, so roam the internet criticising things. If anything, it's the opposite, I was just too optimistic about what the news was gonna be and felt Jerry was a little disingenous with the way he did things. I guess it's all a matter of priorities anyway. Some people would rather get the book than new DVDs or CDs. I wouldn't, but then again that might be because I'm not a huge Peaks fan, so I don't even own the episodes at the moment, so need a way to watch them again!
