Just wondering...

1) How did the original Mulholland Dr. pilot end? What was the last scene in that one?

2) Can someone sell me a copy?

I may be wrong here, but I think that the movie used sections from the Pilot, but not all of it. It's not like Lynch just took the Pilot and bolted another hour on the end.

I also doubt you can get hold of it. Again, I may be wrong, but i've never seen it anywhere.

Not sure about copyright issues and whatnot, but you can pick up a copy of the TV pilot on superhappyfun.com.

I'm sick of seeing people selling this pilot on eBay and seeing websites such as supperhappyfun making cash with people who have actually have talent like David Lynch. What they do is completely illegal, despite of all the BS they have posted to justify that.

If those pilots or rare/unreleased stuff aren't sold in stores, then no one should make money out of them, that's pretty clear. Instead of doing cool prices (let's say, enough to cover the expenses of the blank DVD-R's and shipping costs), they sell this at normal DVD prices !

I have a copy of the MD pilot and wish to share it with anyone who wants it badly. BUT I won't make any profit out of it.

If you have a decent DSL high-speed Internet access, you can download it from me. I'm considering Torrenting it in order to beat the scammers such as superhappyfun. Then people in the US could burn it for the ones who can't download (I'm from France and shipping costs to you in the USA would be a bit ridiculous, more expensive than the rough price of the DVD-R itself).

Let me know what you think of it. Anyway, DO NOT BUY THIS PILOT. You're encouraging the people who are making profit out of you and out of David's work.

I am not going to address the bootlegging issue, pretty much everybody here knows how I feel about that! (Where IS PsychoAU anyway?). But, I will address the Lynch issue. If you want to be honorable to David, then just don't deal with this at all. He would rather that no one ever see the Pilot. The film is the proper realization of this story. If there were any pilot David would be happy with, it would be the original 122 +/- minute cut. This 88-minute cut is terrible. OK, I'm off my soapbox.

OK... then, will do (not distribute it for free). Thanks for the head's up, John.

But at the same time it breaks my heart to see people spending 15 or 20 bucks to get such a crappy DVD-R. So the best to do is to to pretend like it's not happening ?

I am not telling you what to do or what not to do. I have been accused of being the copyright police here, but I don't want to start that crap again. The only point I was trying to make is expressing that in a perfect world for David, there would not be any copies of that pilot cut, nor people wanting to see it. The movie is his realization of the story, that's all.

I understand what you're saying, John, but people like to play "what if" games and see what might have been had ABC given the go ahead for the show.  I think it's just human curiousity, but if I was David Lynch, I'm sure I'd feel the same, and also about the TV-cut of "Dune" that people also seem to want/like?

I didn't know of any TV-cut of Dune.  My dvd lasts 2 hrs 10 mins 48 secs. Is it the integral one?

This is the Dune: Extended Edition - it was not approved by Lynch, in fact he insisted his name was taken off it at the time and replaced with the damning Alan Smithee director’s credit!

At the time, the MD pilot was DL's realization of the story- if not finished without following episodes.

Imagine the TP pilot never bieng picked up by the studio, and extended into a 2 hour film.  People are gonna want to see it.

In a perfect world, all of DL's dvd's would have chapter selections.

I completely understand where you're coming from CCC.  This is pretty much why I don't read film criticisms before I see any given film- it breaks my concentration and openness to it.

But, being the lynch fan that I am, I like to find the peices that make the whole, and kind of research what something could have been or has been.  I just would like to view MD before it was altered is all.

I was just trying to convey to you that I understood what you were saying, and I do.

But I don't believe seeing the pilot would ruin me for life, and if it did then I'll have to live with that mistake.

As a sidebar, I'm not falling for any of this 'this is how David meant it to be seen' stuff.  I'm going to watch 'Dune' the extended version backwards- right now.  "See you all in Hell!"

Littleteeth, I don't think you quite got my point. There was a 122 minute cut of the pilot that David liked very much, that he wanted to deliver to the network. The music was just synth stuff, but it sounded ok. After all, TP was mostly synth stuff for music. BUT, they made him cut out a third of it, to 88 minutes, and he hated that cut. That's the one that's available on sites and ebay etc. It's butchered, that's all. It's not very good, and some have told me it ruined the movie for them. No big deal, watch it or not. I was just trying to clarify that the copies available are not the cut David liked, and he dislikes that it is out in the world.

:) And in a perfect world for David, DVD's woldn't have chapter stops, and you wouldn't be able to fast-forward them.

Sorry, had to say it. :)

NOTE: This post has nothing to do with my view on bootlegging and copyright infringement, I'm not endorsing it.  I was just making a joke. :)

You probably have the theatrical release. That's if it says it is directed by DavidL.

The TV version has a paper sketch-like opening, with images of machines enslaving people, and then of revolution- leading to the non-dependence of machines seen in the movie. DL was definitely not OK with this.

Also there are other scenes of Virginia Madsen, and worm stuff- I especially liked the drowning of the worn scene from which they get the water of life.  I think more of Keynes and perhaps Patrick Stewarts character also.  Its been a while.

Well, it obviously says it's directed  by Lynch and the opening sequence is that of the emperor's daughter introducing the story and then the meeting of the emperor with the creature...

It's a long time since the last time I watched it, I don't remember much of this flick anymore.

Yep, That's not the TV version.  It's interesting to see the rejected scenes though, especially if you're a fan of the book.  Ummmm...  I mean, not that I want to compare them or anything.  You know.

I didn't read the book and I definitely not am a fan of Dune. But it's always a quite good movie. I love it especially for the sceneries.
