Hi i was just curious what was the deal with the exit of james? Did he want to leave or was he offered a role in a movie. I know some actors have left tv shows for movies. Or was it something else?

I'm guessing it wasn't for a record deal... :)

haha, no. i'd like to say it was because he caught something from evelyn marsh and the only cure was less screen time.
Er, would you like some lemonade? I also have some saltines and some apple butter. Or would you like to wash your hands? kittyvillain.blogspot.com

With the murder solved there wasn't much for James to do in the show... Most of his subplots were related to Laura and the love triangle with Donna and Maddy ended when this one died, so they got rid of him. Of course, they didn't do it right away and we got that Evelyn Marsh mess... On the other hand they kept Donna until the very end and we got the also terrible "You're my daddy!" subplot...

He went on to dedicate his life to fruit punch and huckleberry pie!
Ben: "We've laid in a gala reception for your fair-haired boys tonight. All of Twin Peaks' best and brightest." Jerry: "We're holding it in a phone booth?"

He wanted to leave the show and was written out. I don't know how early it was and if the Evelyn Marsh plot was written to set that in motion. I do know when it started airing, it was public knowledge that James Marshall would be leaving the show soon.

I heard rumors, as in: someone mentioned it on the TP IMDb message boards, that he would have returned for season 3. (?) But I don't know.

Implying that something somebody said anywhere at all on the IMDB message boards is canon, is akin to applying the same authenticity to something that a mentally ill neighbour shouted out during a good wank. Some of the people on those boards make me wonder if soon we as humans will all grow gills and walk backwards into the fucking sea.

From a crew member: "James had film offers, and the character development and future for his role was confusing, getting off track, weird and disappointing."

Truthfully, I always felt that the reason James left TP and found more trouble (through the weak Marsh storyline) was because the show was trying to illustrate that he could NOT get away from these terrible affairs unfolding around him. EVerywhere he went, the darkness would continue...perhaps in different forms, but he couldn't get away and instead of running away should return home........but then...he rides off to Mexico and everything is hunky dory...so the image was lost. A mistake in the movement of the show....still has good moments at least.
