I'm sure that Season 3 of Twin Peaks would have explored the back story of Annie's suicide attempt, and I think it had the possibility of being a great storyline.  I believe she explained to Cooper that she had been hurt by some guy, but there weren't really any more details from what I remember.  Obviously, the guy had to be a resident of Twin Peaks, but the question is... who was he?

My vote goes for John Justice Wheeler.  He's the right age, and story wise, it would have set up a great quadrangle involving Audrey and Coop.

What does anyone else think about the details of Annie's suicide attempt?

how about Leo? just a wild guess.just a story, she comes into town, works with shelly. women with abuse would commit suicide or try if they are very deepdown in love with a loser.

That's a good question. Of course, it could have also been in the town where the convent was, but this is possible. As badly executed as the character is, I don't think John Justice would be the one to hurt a woman in a way that drives her to suicide.

Did we ever get a time frame for Annie's departure?

isnt John Justice meant to be that irrestible guy that everygirl falls for? Love can drive people to their lowest.

but anyway, I dont think it would have been him. and I also agree that his caracther was badly executed. can't stand him - neither his unfamous sweater

Yeah, but he doesn't seem like the kind of guy who would leave a girl in a way that would lead her to suicide.

Douglas- I'm sure you are a very nice guy, but would you stay with someone just to save their life? Relationships end. If the dumpee can't survive without the dumper, it's hardly the latter's problem. It is difficult to love/stick it out with a very depressed person, but she probably didn't get suicidal til after he was gone...

Some of us think JJW had his partner killed in Brazil, and made sure he was conveniently in Twin Peaks when the death was discovered.

I don't think it could have been Leo... Annie would have realized he was Shelley's husband, and it would have come out.  And Norma would have warned Shelley, I think.

One of my least favorite scenes in all of Twin Peaks is that HORRIBLE fireside chat between Cooper and Wheeler, just before Wheeler leaves town.  I have to fast forward through it every time.  I just can't make any sense out of that scene, why it happened and why it wasn't just cut in the editing room before airing.  So the only thing that makes sense in my mind is that it was setting up something between the two characters, to be palyed out in Season 3.

I think we all agree that the characters of JJW and Annie were ill conceived and basically shoved down our throats, but it seemed to me like they were going to be in town for a while.  And I actually think they had the possibility of becoming solid members of the cast.

This scenario I've thought up of the two of them sharing a complicated past is just one way that the writers could have pulled it all together.

I don't know. At the time, I don't think they were thinking about the man. Annie needed to be developed quickly for the plot and to give Cooper a love interest. The same with Wheeler.

Perhaps down the line, they left it ambiguous to try to bridge something. At the time, without the knowledge of the behind the scenes politics, I just assumed Annie and Wheeler would have had a past in order to complicate the Audrey/Cooper plot. And with the fireside chat, I thought, "oh, boy here we go." but that was not the case or intention even if the series had continued.
