Any other Burlesque fans / performers / supporters out there?

I have been taking burly lessons for 6 months now and (after having tested a routine out on my willing partner!) I feel ready to take it a step further and perform somewhere * teeth chatter nervously *

Im really looking forwar to going further with this as I love the glamour, sauce and humour of Burly, especially mixing up the sexy USA Burlesque of Dita and co with more bawdy, political traditional British Burly.

Any Burly girls or boys, pop on and say hi to me

The Norwegians are leaving!

Unfortunatly, this is the only Burlesque I'm familiar with.  Don't really know much about the history and the British style.

Ben:  "We've laid in a gala reception for your fair-haired boys tonight.  All of Twin Peaks' best and brightest."

Jerry: "We're holding it in a phone booth?"

Burlesque is still alive and kicking, for sure! I have many female friends in troupes who are forever trying to get me to audition, and think it's great that it attracts plenty of big sassy gals. (It is not a timid waif's vocation!) I dig the 40's showgirl hair and makeup, the strutting and pouting, how it can be understated and daring all at once.

Just watched Ruby again and Sherilyn Fenn does two routines, one as a cowgirl and one in a sequined gown (directed at David Duchovny's character.)

Masuimi Max did a fine one with pink ostrich feather fans in an otherwise worthless movie, too (that Black Dahlia direct-to-video stinker.)

I have any number of dancer friends in the Seattle burlesque scene, including my son's ex, who's appeared with me as a singer/actress several times. I appeared with her (as a singer) with Burning Hearts & hosted a show for Tempest. Also know a woman (Deirdre Timmons) who directed a fabulous documentary on the Seattle scene, called A Wink & A Smile that's doing quite well on the festival circuit.  I'm a bit too "not young" to dance myself, but for those looking for music, I'd suggest a song by the criminally overlooked '60s/'70s Brit band Family, simply entitled: Burlesque. A mid-tempo rocker that sounds like a drunken cowboy on a serious mission!!! "I'm headin' out west/destination Burlesque/ I got all my cards in one shooooooe!!!!"

Hey look, cross pollination! A burlesque tribute to David Lynch.

I hope there will be a panties eating scene.

The Peepshow Menagerie Beneath the Surface show was so much fun!

1. Lady in the Radiator, wearing a wide white mask and angel wings, strips her dress down to bandage undies filled with red jello. She stabs them with scissors after doing a fan dance with the angel wings to In Heaven.

2. Elephant Man strips down to pink fringed undies and a pink head of hair to Mancini's Elephant Walk.

3. Audrey Horne in OEJ undies and cat mask does a traditional burlesque tease to Audrey's Dance.

4. Lula does an athletic tease to a medley of Wild at Heart speed metal tracks and Be Bop A Lula in her stockings and bustier.

5. Nude Laura Palmer is unwrapped from her plastic by two cops. Then she is rolled back up and they walk away backward. She comes to life, writes BOB in a diary, brushes her hair backward, and puts on lingerie.

6. The Blue Velvet one was a last minute thing to In Dreams and Love Letters. Decent act, but irrelevant except she cracked a can of PBR at the end.

7. On the Air: the bimbo actress who freezes up and sings her mom's song when she blows her lines strips to Walkin On the Sky, licking an iron, blindfolding herself (all under a strobing light.)

8. Renee strips down to blonde wig and Alice dress to Insensatez, then down to black then white underwear. Think there was a 2nd song, but this bit was forgettable.

9. On a foam tractor, a pigtailed woman in denim overalls and flannel strips, grinds, eats a hot dog, and picks up her fallen clothes with a grabber.

10. "Rebecca Del Rio" strips to Llorando from a flamenco dress stuffed with roses down to a feather boa and lingerie, then produces a giant blue sequined box prop.

11. To a medley of Ghost of Love and Locomotion, Lori and Lanni flash eachother and smoke cigarettes under a moving flashlight, then Sue bunny (who was ironing) strips down to only her rabbit mask and pulls a rabbit out of the prop stool.

** and apropos of Booth's "you've been lynched" photoshop, Ashton Kutcher was in attendance!

Molly Crabapple has started the Dr. Sketchy Anti-Art clubs nation-wide. Basically, it is a sketch party with the burlesque performers providing the modeling. A performance followed by posing all in an 1890's-ish frame of mind. They have crowd interactions that might win the artists "Bawdy Shots" and so on. If you are looking to upgrade your audience they should provide you with appreciative types.

12Rainbow - What no LIL doing the running man while the fashion police decide what to cite her for: Bad red wig, she kept one hand in her pocket and made a fist with the other one, and kept blinking her eyes? Liked the rose though!

I looked for an emoticon of old LIL in the board's choices and this was as close as I found

Here are the current United Kingdom Dr. Shetchy choices. I sadly have NO idea which of these might be in the North of England. I only know that London isn't.
Dr. Sketchy's - Belfast
Dr. Sketchy's - Birmingham
Dr. Sketchy's - Coventry
Dr. Sketchy's - Edinburgh
Dr. Sketchy's - Glasgow
Dr. Sketchy's - Huddersfield
Dr. Sketchy's - Leeds
Dr. Sketchy's - London
Dr. Sketchy's - Manchester
Dr. Sketchy's - Nottingham
