I fell in love with Twin Peaks when it was originally aired in 1990/91, I was 15 at the time. There was a lot of stuff I did not understand but still I LOVED Twin Peaks with a passion. I may not have had the finer points of the Packard / Martell / Saw-Mill / finances stuff down pat, and I may not have had a clue about portals, doppelgangers, good and evil but oh! I loved it! I loved the feeling, the atmosphere, the charecters. Now I am 34 and I can watch TP with a more "informed" head on my shoulders - but I don't love it more than i did then. In fact, being older and wiser and approaching things in a more logical fashion has maybe detracted from the experience slightly. I may be watching the series with more knowledge and experience, better equipment, in the privacy of my own home, but nothing beats the feeling of passion, excitement and discovery when I watched TP for the first time. Now, I know what will happen next, I just crave for the feeling of new-ness when i did not know who the killer was, what comes next, what will happen... So, anyone who watched TP as a kid and is watching now as an adult - do you get more out of it now you "understand" more, or was that first rush of wierdness better?

Hi, welcome.
It's like the first time you discover a dish you really like. You still enjoy it, but your senses are used to it.

I know what you mean. I'm 35, and like you I fell in love with TP in it's first run. I think the fact that I had never even heard of David Lynch before and knew nothing of his work made the impact even more profound. I had never seen ANYTHING like that before. Now I know a lot about about DL and how he approaches his work, as well as knowing more in general about how the symbolism and everything works. It does take some of the fun out of it. I think it's that way with anything you love, though. As fans, I think we're all trying to recapture some of that when we rewatch and discuss these things endlessly.

I was 11 when the show aired--and I fell for it and fell for it hard. After watching the pilot and first episode, from there on out I taped it every week, would watch it over and over that week, then tape the next one...watch it over and over...you get the pattern. :) **I still have all those tapes with the commercials, even though I thought about trying to be quick with the remote to keep them out--now I'm glad I didn't, I didn't miss anything vital and have some cool old commercials to look at**. So for me, I was definitely into it more when I was younger--though it's wonderful watching it now, like going back to a favorite spot that was your own and just made you feel good. I will admit it has been a while since I have watched the series as I fell into a Peaks slump as of late, but am seriously entertaining the thought of at least a first series marathon. Tonight I put the soundtrack on, and when the first note of the theme song played...I literally got goosebumps. And that's not because I'm sitting in front of a fan when it's 85 still at 10 p.m. :)
