I'm staying at the Fairfield Economy Inn, arriving Thursday night.  I'll hang a picture of The Pig Walks on my door if anyone wants to say 'hi' before or between events, maybe carpool to the college. 

The good news:  I'm sooo excited.  Bad news: the cost of this trip will prevent me from attending the Festival in North Bend.  It was a very difficult decision to make, but this may be my only opportunity to meet David Lynch.  I also watched What the Bleep do We Know and the lecture video, and was intrigued  If TM has always been at the heart of Lynch's creative process, then I need to know more. 

That's SAD SAD SAD that you won't be at the fest!

I'll be there in spirit, though.  "Old habits die hard..."

So I just recieved notification that there isn't a going to be limited entrance.  The letter said this:

"Registrations are coming in from all over the US. We originally expected about 200 attendees. Our current estimate is 500-600!
David is deeply touched by this response and doesn't want to turn anyone away. So the University has given us a larger facility and now there's room for everyone. As you would expect with these numbers, it may not be physically possible for David to meet with each person."

It also said they were adjusting the schedule so that he would be speaking more.   But still.  It's going to be a zoo and I'm thinking of cancelling.   

500-600 people!! Wow!!

I'm really glad that Jordan and I decided not to go after all. There would have been no way that we could have met him unless we sent word ahead of time. <sigh> It would have been great.

Dudes, now they're saying 900 people. 

This from the update: 

So we're going to have a great event -- with students, educators, artists, scientists, health professionals, and others coming together to explore the frontiers of consciousness, creativity, and the brain.

And our special guest artist will be Donovan Leitch, who will join us for the weekend. He'll perform on Saturday night, and be honored with the University's Peace Award.

We're going all out to give you a wonderful experience! The University is prepared to take good care of you to make your weekend smooth and enjoyable with all-organic vegetarian meals (with lots of goodies), tours, shuttle buses, and more. 

Sounds like a giant clusterf*ck.    *sigh*   At least they started offering refunds

I'm telling you it's hard out here for a hole plugging ho'. Or something. If it's not Scientology, it's Maha-Vedic-Peace-Palace-ism. It's always so scientific too!  And stuff.

Hey, I just found it on streaming video for dial-up!  It's cool.  DAVID LYNCH IS TALKING ON MY COMPUTER!!!!  WOWIE!!

Though I missed most of David Lynch speaking because I overslept, the rest of the conference was fascinating.  It was in scientific terms, pretty much what I'd written in poetry the other day. (soon to be song lyrics!)

I love that David Lynch is involved with merging meditation, art, and science in exploring the nature of reality and consciousness.

At one point I think it was said that consciousness does not usually observe itself.

I do know that to me, my consciousness is closest to observing itself through meditation and through lucid dreaming.

It was kind of funny that the scientific charts displayed didn't come through clearly on my screen and looked more like old, typical dream writing  used to look- indeceiferable- though these days I can read in most dreams (but I still have trouble making phone calls until I'm lucid, and then who needs a phone call then, really?)

I digress...

It is uplifting and inspiring to know that David Lynch is helping to merge the worlds of art, science and spirituality in our eyes, though these worlds are already of the same essence, not all may have realized this yet.

I'm hoping that somehow there will be a dvd release of this conference in the near future, or at least more of the same kind of conferences preferably close to where I live!

What are everyone else's thoughts and impressions of all of this?

FYI, the conference starts up again on Sunday at 9:30 AM where David, Donovan, and the Maharishi will be answering more questions.

I'm too bowled over by getting this on my computer to make coherent comments.  But I missed the main part with the Maharishi--and in 1976, I paid $60 for my very own mantra!  College students are the biggest suckers.  Maybe I could learn to meditate now...

Did Donovan sing "Hurdy Gurdy Man"?   ...singing songs of luuuuhaaaahuuuuve!

The webcast ended at 11am MST this morning, as far as I know, because that is when it stopped streaming for me.

In the invitation email it said it would end at that time too.

I would have liked to see Donovan play too and of course I would have loved to see more of the conference including tomorrow's bit.

Maybe it had a different feel to it because of the scientists involved?  I don't have a comparisson because I've never seen anything like it before.

Strange, but yesterday, I just thought it was over because it stopped when it said in the email it would stop and I couldn't get back on.  Today, I try it and I am delighted that it is here again!  Maybe it was a glitch or something going wrong yesterday.

Anyway, it is streaming the second part right now! yay! 

I'm listening to the end of it, and they gave us a website where the Maharishi gives advice and sells products on line:  www.mapi.com 

Now I know where all that money went paying for mantras.  He sold out.  You were right, Susan!

I do wonder why it costs so much to learn transcendental meditation.  I certainly don't have money for it, but at the same time, I would love to learn it.  I'm also curious how it differs from the type of meditation I've been practicing for most of my life.  There is a free part of the TM course offered, which is wonderful. It would be easier if a TM course was offered closer to where I live (the nearest one is 2 hours away) Besides somehow being able to come up with the $2500 fee, I would also have to take time off from work to attend the four day course.  I'm feeling kind of like those with a lower income are left out.

I'm sure it has many benefits for the course, but I wish it was more accesible in many ways.
