Apologies if this has already been covered, but watched FWWM again last night for the first time in over 10 years and have a couple of niggling questions that I am hoping you can answer. 1. In the film The One Armed Man knows that Leland is possesed by Bob, So why in the series does he not tell Cooper that he knows who the killer is? 2.What happened to Chris Isaaks character when he picked up the ring? Did he just go into the black lodge? If so how come theres no mention of him later in the series 3. What on earth was happening in that scene in which David Bowie appeared? 4. Is there any major continuity errors between the film and the series, Thought there probably is as the prequel was filmed last, One thing I did notice is that the Palmer house looked slightly different for some reason i thought, but I could be imagining that. Cheers Darren

I can field 2 & 4:
2. In early scripts, there was no Desmond. His lines, and the Teresa investigation, were Cooper's. Kyle refused to play more than a cameo, hence Desmond was created-- long after the series ended.
See post 16. for more on the theory that Desmond is Cooper's dream self:

4. Indeed, there are two different Palmer houses.

For 1, some people have conjectured that when Mike goes back into Gerard again, he loses his memory of what he was doing before -- so by the time Mike re-emerges in the series, he doesn't know BOB is in Leland. That theory is never really nailed down, though. For 3, if by "what's going on" you mean the jumpy, disjointed cutting of the scene, I have to agree with the dream theory. If it's not a dream, I'd have to say it's Lynch's idiosyncratic way of suggesting Jeffries' state of mind as he tells this crazy story about the creatures from this alternate dimension, and his experience in following them there (meaning the fades to the Convenience Store meeting, the static-filtered shots of power lines, and the cut-ups of Bowie in a chair are not actually being experienced by Coop, Gordon, or Albert, but are there as artistic license, like the way the screen in a normal movie will get wavy and then blur around the edges when a character is having a flashback to an earlier time). But if for 3 you mean "what is happening in the scene", my view (regardless of whether it's all a dream or not) is: - Cooper warns Gordon about today being significant because of the dream he'd had (and told Gordon about) - Cooper goes to the security room to start the chain of events from his dream - when he sees himself in the security camera, with Jeffries passing him in the hall, he realizes that what he dreamed is now actually happening, and rushes back in (note that when Jeffries starts speaking, Coop says "Gordon?!', who replies 'I know, Coop' - to me this says that Gordon recognizes that Cooper's dream included these lines from Jeffries) - Jeffries identifies Cooper as a person of interest from his own experiences (probably from the 'other side') - they sit Jeffries down, he tells his story, and then he somehow disappears (maybe through the open line on the phone Albert's holding?) To me the end of this scene is frustrating, because it seems cut-off and doesn't give anything to chew on as Lynch's mysteries normally do - it feels like he just didn't have a way to complete it and kinda copped out. I can recall if the script closes it in a more satisfying way or not (cue Booth's favorite unshot scene).

but what comes right after the bowie scene? our first view of laura alive. cooper mentions a dream he had about that morning, and also tells diane that the killer will strike again, but as the song goes, who knows where or when. the next scene answers that question explicitly, it will be laura.

Question 3 is a great question, and I think everybody wants the answer to it! The way I interpret it is that it's two things going on at the same time in different places, just juxtaposed cleverly as if they are 'intercepting' each other and influencing each other - I think Jeffries (Bowie) was in the Black Lodge, so in order for him to have entered our world the barriers between the two worlds had to be unstable or even broken, which would be why we're seeing both at once, contradicting each other, occurring simultaneously, as well as Cooper's 'real world' image freezing on the security camera. In our world, Jeffries tries to talk to Gordon Cole about a few things, in a kind of messed up, Black Lodge way, while all of the 'Lodge inhabitants have their meeting to decide the next actions of Bob, Laura Palmer ("Fell a victim"). Things clear up again and we return to linear narrative when the dimensions separate again and Jeffries disappears back into the Black Lodge. I think it would be similar if Cooper ever returned - he'd be there temporarily and have a hard time explaining what he's trying to say, while the walls of reality and logic collapse around him.
