Heyyy y'alll....think i've posted about this before, but it was a loong time ago, so it's probably away on one of the older pages. So. the ambient music on the season one dvd menus...it was my first experience of twin peaks....and yes it doesn't feature in the show etc etc...but my god its so wonderful. does anyone have any sort of insight into the making of this music? it seems to compliment the show completely. It's like steve roach and brian eno after taking too much prozac.

A duo called "Stars Of The Lid" do exactly that style of music. Dreamy, moody ambience. They have a song called Gasfarming which starts off with a sample of Big Ed answering the phone. They have also done a soundtrack to "Twin Peaks Episode 30" which is in two parts. Lovely stuff. As for how to make that sort of music/ambience, i haven't the foggiest, but i'd love to find out where to start so i could have a go myself. And yeah, Brian Eno rules. I was introduced to his stuff when the credits rolled after the film "Ghost In The Shell" and i saw that he did the soundtrack, which was just so minimalist yet so epic. Quality.

the easiest way to get into it would be using software. there's a number of sequencing programs out there which are either free or very cheap. once you have a capable 'environment' which can host VST instruments, there's literally hundreds (thousands?) of free software synthesizers, etc which can be used. here's a link to get you started: http://www.reaper.fm

Coincidentally, i've been listenin to Brian McBride, who is one half of the duo. Eno's collaboration with Budd on the Pearl is sweet too...An Echo of Night is very TPishhh
