de shit, it come out of my ass

That line alone would have launched a whole series of Twin Peaks movies that would be as financially viable as Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, etc.

When the movie first came out, I liked the movie better.  But I was into darkness more back in those days.  Now, I like the series a lot better.

And Truman strummed the guitar in that scene - another unreleased music track!?!?!?!?

Did you tape it? Because that sounds like something worth holding on to.

An empty glass on the floor, a carpet soaking up expensive whiskey, an old man's body slumped over in a comfy chair.

The only sounds we hear is an old tape recording repeating the phrase "I want to hear 'I had sex with e.t.'" with the sound of the tape rewinding between each playback.

Pull back and fade to black with the words I had sex with e.t. echoing into eternity.

So can I gather from this thread that a lot of people are in two minds or don't like FWWM?

It's definitely not one side or the other - there are people who like the series better and people who like FWWM better.  This goes against the critical reaction to the two of these entities.  They both kick ass IMO.

In my opinion, another big black eye for FWWM is that Lara Flynn Boyle is not in it. Personally, it kind of takes me out of the story when Moira Kelly's Donna is on screen because she represents such an obvious disconnect from the series.

As much as I love to bash LFB, it was disconcerting not having her in FWWM and especially with Kelly's bland performance (although she wasn't given much to work with).

Moira Kelly had fur on her arms and a mustache.

I liked Moira Kelly's performance, she seemed most like the Donna talked about in Laura's diary.

 That's true.

I have to admit that I liked LFB's Donna better but I have to wonder how much that is to do with her physical beauty. As whatever you say about LFB, she was gorgeous in TP. But I never knew what Donna was up to in the series. Her sudden transformation into a femme fatale was jarring and out-of-character. Although, I suppose FWWM showed how Donna started to act like Laura, and maybe the series was just the conclusion of that.

she started wearing laura's "stuff" (shades) and it altered her personality. that's why laura didn't want donna wearing her things in the pink room.

FWWM v TP Series

Subchapter Moira v. Lara

Saw FWWM in a good theatre- noticed no forearm hair, nor on DVD anyway...

To me Moira was cuter, sexier, and I was glad she was the one to do the partial nude scene in the bar. She is a sweetheart. as opposed to

Lara. To me: a bone rack with an offputting personality.

While I absolutely love the series from episode 1-16, I often miss the misty, wet, dark mood of the Pilot, throughout the series. --Not to mention the more subtle quirkiness of the pilot as opposed to  some of the in-your-face shenanigans of the rest of the show. Of course, there was no avoiding the sun, as they filmed everything except the pilot in and around Los Angeles. However, I was and am still disappointed that they shot the film during the only TWO months of the year when it's actually sunny out in western Wasghington. Couldn't they have waited to begin shooting a month or two later for the sake of atomosphere and consistency?! It was supposed to be winter for gods sakes! I can only assume that the pilot represents the most clear vision and mood they intended to set for the show, so it's just surprising that when they had the chance to film a prequel in Washington, that they chose to do it in the heart of summertime. In any case, I love the dark themes of FWWM and the pilot -i wouldn't change a thing about that. I do feel that had they shot the film sometime between October and April the whole thing would've felt so much more in synch with the original Twin Peaks –the things I love most about it.

My only other gripes about the movie are the wig, which i felt was hugely distracting (even Maddy's Laura wig looked better!), the weight of Sheryll Lee (forgive me, she's beautiful, but the added poundage made her look much older than 17), Moira Kelly's bland performance and distinctly un-Donna looks and style of speaking (I'd have scoured the earth to find an LFB lookalike and would've just taken a chance on her acting chops which, as it turned out, wouldn't have made much difference one way or the other), and the lack of the woods, which played an indispensible role in both the themes of the series and of Laura Palmer's life and death. Aside from Bobby and Laura's drunken romp, and the last scenes in FWWM, Where were the woods we heard so much about in Laura's diary and throughout the show????

Whatever. What's done is done. For the most part, I'll take it rather than leave it.

Good points Charles. While I agree with a lot of what you are saying, I often wonder why they didn't try and use some level of color correction to get the "Summertime" look toned down a bit. I have always felt that FWWM enhances the Series and ties in so well with Episode 29 in tone and feel.

I'm OK with the Donna switch but agree that LFB would have been a better choice. I think the strengths of FWWM are in the first 30 minutes with the new Chet and Teresa Banks material.

In some ways, I never wanted to see what happened to Laura Palmer. It was much better always wondering what it would have been like. The imagination goes wild from there. Kind of like the Star Wars Prequels, which could have been done without.

However, I will say that after all is said and done, I still enjoy FWWM the most with the Pilot and Episode 29 coming in as second and third.

Very well said Charles and Dugpa...I haven't posted on this thread yet because I was trying to figure out "how" to say it....but you're right, it's all about the mood and the woods (at least for me) and FWWM and the pilot have it!

Nefud, how can you say LFB was not your vision of Donna when that was the only vision us fans even knew until FWWM came out?
