QUOTE: | QUOTE:. Didn't see the Julee Cruise at SAM bit that Angel referred to. Julee didn't sing at SAM, as the movie night was in N. Bend that year. Maybe you're confusing her with me. I'm the only one that's ever sung at a Lynch movie night at SAM! |
Yeah, you two look so much alike ;) It's pp 657, and he doesn't specify where, just that he's the film curator for the Festival, which is held in North Bend. Someone who wasn't there would assume since he's the SAM guy, it was at SAM. Erm, someone who was there and forgot would, too...

I ordered Beautiful Dark from the publisher and it still hasn't arrived. In my more passive aggressive moments I assume it's the universe telling me not to bother. Other times I just curse the fallability of the human animal and flirt with the idea of ordering another copy from Amazon (dear, corporate, reliable Amazon). If I had a Facebook page my mood for today would read 'On the horns of a dilemma'. Speaking as one who has been denied the delights of Beautiful Dark I have to say I've rather enjoyed this thread. I totally agree with 12rainbow about Lynch fans having a tendency to fawn, especially if it gets them an advance copy. Consider if you will the spectacle of John Neff posting on the board and people fair swooning and kissing his holy ring (no hold on, that's the Pope). If and when I obtain a copy of Beautiful Dark I shall feel under no obligation to heap undeserving praise (or criticism for that matter) on it because it's not like Greg Olson gave me a copy as a thoughtful gift. If my credit card was declined the publisher wouldn't say 'Never mind, have this one on us'. It's just a business transaction, not a lasting relationship. Entertain me or go to hell, I always say. I think 12rainbow's right about the price of the book being an issue. Nowadays you have to have fairly deep pockets to be a David Lynch fan. I for one love being fed a constant stream of books, DVDs, music and assorted tat so I have no complaints whatsoever on that front but there was a time when I couldn't even afford to buy Wrapped In Plastic so I know people have other priorities.

sorry you seem to be stuck faceintheleaves. it looks to be a crapshoot with who to order from, and how long it takes. has anyone seen it in stores? i havent. i guess i just got lucky in timing my order with amazon. maybe theyve run out of the first printing? or are cleaning up the typos(not that theyre hugely prevelant, but they do jump out at you if youre reading in long streches). i finished it middle of last week, and i have to agree with 12rainbow, 3.5/5. much more a biography than analysis. if you can stand the fawning prose, its worthwhile(a style not abnormal in the biography genre). i guess i was hoping for a grander overview of his work than the man himself, which seems strangely contradicting as there really hasnt been a well made biography of him as of yet, but ive seemed to stop caring about his personal life and am more interested in his work, not how he does it. as has been said before, if youre looking for information on the films, find the complete lynch and lynch on lynch first. BD does have a good deal of info from interviews and first person narratives of watching FWWM being shot, but at least half the book is a bio of lynch, and sometimes seems to be projecting onto him the author's own feelings, as olson's relationship with lynch isnt exactly clear. hopefully it comes out in paperback in a year or so, so the price is more practical for most of us who live with limited income, and it doesnt have to be a luxury item.

I've finally ordered my copy! Hoping that during Christmas break I will have the time to read through it. But we'll see if I can keep myself from peeking before then. :)
