"I am the arm." "and I... sound like this." The LMFAP speaks these words to Agent Cooper in FWWM, immediately before Coop implores Laura to not take the ring. The sound that the LMFAP actually makes is heard at two other points in the beginning of the film, both in the Fat Trout trailer park sequence. The first time it is heard right after the brief appearance and exit of the one-eyed lady (who notably leaves Carl looking very perturbed). The sound plays while the camera pans downward along the telephone pole, settling on the number six [precise time=22:45]. When the sound ends, the shot returns to Carl, clearly rattled, taking a drag from his cigarette. He then states, cryptically, "See, I've already been places. I just want to stay where I am." (On a side note, has anyone else noticed the uncanny similarity between the one-eyed lady's sporadic movements and those of the LMFAP featured in Cooper's initial dream?) The "arm's sound" is heard again when Agent Desmond returns to the Fat Trout. After the incident where Margaret asks Carl for her "goddamn hot water," the camera once more focuses on the telephone pole and the number six while the sound plays [time=25:39]. Immediately afterwards, Desmond's attention spontaneously shifts to the Chalfont trailer. Any theories on this? It seems significant, considering the LMFAP's later statement explaining the sound to Cooper. Could this tie into the WIP FWWM dream theory? Lastly, let me say that I've been lurking on this forum for a couple of weeks, and I've immensely enjoyed the intelligent posts and good humor that abound. Sourdust's exceptionally detailed entries in particular were a real pleasure to read. I hope to contribute when and where I am able. Cheers.
