Has anyone heard this band before?

I first saw them mentioned on the IMDB message boards FWWM page. Here is their mySpace :http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=121279904

They're really great. Their second album, Midnight Radio is completely Black Lodge music, and it's 2.5 hours long! You can just imagine the LMFAP having this on repeat. And their third album, Sunset Mission, is even better. It is a little bit mellower, as they replace the guitar with a saxophone but still so Peaksy in tone. I don't know if Lynch knows this band but I think he would love them.

As chance would have it, I was the one who posted that topic on IMDB :)

And yeah, they're great. Especially Sunset Mission and Black Earth. Midnight Radio isn't my favourite album of theirs, a little bit too minimalistic. There's a new album coming in October. It's called Dolores, and judging from the sample at their myspace, it will be something of a mixture between Black Earth and Geisterfaust. I can't wait to hear it!

Really! Well, thank you for introducing me to a great band. Midnight radio is the kind of thing you might put on late at night if you're going to sleep. Or obviously driving music as the cover and name suggest. I haven't listened to Black Earth yet. What is Geisterfaust like? From reading about them, it seems like maybe that album might have been a misstep.

No not at all, but it's kind of stripped-down compared to Black Earth and Sunset Mission. It's not as minimalistic as Midnight Radio, but sometimes just as slow. I guess it just has less "direct appeal" than their other albums. The first and last songs are really great though.

Their older albums (Gore Motel) remind me more of "Red Room" or "Pink Room" from Badalamenti's Twin Peaks.

I just listened to Black Earth for the first time. I don't like it as much as Sunset Mission, but it's still very good. I liked the saxophone in Sunset Mission and they've taken that away and it's got more keyboard but I suppose they had to vary it. I've gotta get Geisterfaust now.

In that case I doubt you'll like Geisterfaust much. It has only one song with saxophone in it; the last one. To truly appreciate Black Earth you need to play it on a decent stereo, preferably with the bass cranked up a little. The bass is just ridiculously heavy on that album :)

They're pretty awesome live too, btw. I got a chance to see them last year and I think they're touring Europe again this fall, so I'm hoping to catch them a second time. I don't think they've ever toured in the US though.
