x-ray Hangover Remedies

So it's Sunday morning in Hong Kong, and I'm feeling a little worse for wear after the night before.

I read somewhere about bananas being good for replacing lost minerals - so I made a banana milkshake with honey, ice cream and milk. Yummy and I do feel a little bit perkier.

Any other good remedies?

Blow.

"Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it, don't wait for it, just let it happen. Could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot, black coffee. Like this."  -Dale Cooper

No, the Johnny Depp movie.

Unfortunately, I have no cure for a hangover other than not drinking or the passing of time.

Breakfast food tends to do it for me, which sounds weird. But. Bacon and eggs with hashbrowns.  And 7-up.  Must be all the protien and starch...

Sure fire (in my experience);

1 large candy bar

3 large glasses of water

The problem is you have take before you go to sleep so you are least likely to remember it when you are most in need.

Two bottles of Powerade (Gatorade in the US?) back-to-back always sorts me out, then just drink as much water as you feel you can throughout the day. Mine goes in no time.

And even though it's the last thing you desire after a night out on the session, try a fried breakfast. And yeah, i heard the banana thing too. Michael Caine (no, not the actor, the asian chef) swears by it. He says banana smoothies do the trick every time.

That crappy speed stuff that makes you feel like rear end that you can acquire in gas stations.

A girl outta my work swears by milk thistle. I don't actually know what that is or if it works. She still looks a mess after a night out though.

I am a huge fan of females who are hot messes.

You'll want to see pix of me after a long night on the town then. I'm always a hot mess the morning after. The kind that makes me not want to share said pix.

My hangover remedy is always a high-protein breakfast, preferably with some grease involved. No, seriously. Things like bacon, eggs, hamburgers, chili dogs. Always recommend a bloody Mary the next morning as well. Top it up enough that you can't taste the vodka and you're fine. I always get extra celery in mine because that seems to help as well. Oh, and lots of coffee AND water (diuretic and hydration...RAWK).

My friend Debbie swears by her pre-drinking remedy to a post-drinking hangover. She takes like four aspirin/pain relievers before starting the night out, and she says it keeps her from throwing up or having a hangover. Haven't tried it myself. With my luck I'd hit the right combo of aspirin and alcohol and end up asphyxiating on my own vomit on the floor of a gay nightclub in SF. Which wouldn't be a bad way to go...all those poufs shaking their asses under the fancy colored lights...

Hah, the aspirin cocktail sounds kind of dangerous. I wouldn't have luck with that one either!

For me buttermilk does it! One or two glasses and I feel better... and of course McD-food!

The main thing that bugs me is how it ruins the following day.

I wish I could handle drinking straight buttermilk. I've had a couple of people recommend that to me before for a hangover cure.

Speaking of McDonald's food for hangovers... I remember back in high school...my best friend Debbie and I were both fifteen at the time, and incredibly enough, both of our long-time boyfriends dumped us the same damn day. We were horribly depressed and so I went over to her place to stay the night so we could just cry it out together. We somehow got the bright idea that we should also drink screwdrivers. Debbie ended up drinking almost the entire bottle of vodka herself and spent the whole night puking. The next morning we were both terribly hung over, and the only thing that sounded good was Burger King. So we called a friend to bring us bacon double cheeseburgers, onion rings, and chocolate shakes. It was awesome. And thus began my love affair with greasy post-drinking foods.

I believe it is an unwritten requirement on days following an alcohol binge to indulge in a lot of grease.

People who love their menudo really love it, and the tripe in it is supposed to be really nutritious. But if you didn't grow up equating that cooking odor with food.... *the horror, the horror*

I go with Annie's answer: teetotaling and prayer

Menudo is indeed delicious but man oh man...it took me a LONG time to get over the odor of the tripas and also the look of it to try it. I still don't eat the tripas...I leave that in my bowl. The most depressing thing ever was one time that I got both tripas and feet in my bowl. I was like "Yeah, this is...not happening." :)

Never used it as a hangover cure though. I think I'd rather throw up a lot and take aspirin and water...

That's also the reaction to listening to the vocal group Menudo (with or without senor Ricky Martin).

Yeah, when I was complaining about my neighbors cooking last year, they were cooking the poo out of the intestines - it was chitlins (or SHIT-lins, as I like to call it) in this case- and it was coming in through all our vents. You could smell it outside. Then they had leftovers for 3 days. No ionic breeze or air freshener could conquer it. The only thing I've ever smelled that came close was when I drove past a farm where they were melting massive quantities of manure for fertilizer. If I was in the CIA and the enemy wanted to torture secrets out of me, this would be the way to do it. (Admittedly, I have a hyper-sensitive nose and I also can't stand the smell of sauerkraut or the Pike Place fish market in Seattle.)

An ex's mom's bf had his family over for Thanksgiving one year and they made menudo and were baffled that the smell made me physically ill. I felt bad. Cultural differences, you know? The Chinese can't stand the smell of cheese.
