I had a dream about the old man this morning. First time he's popped up. I was floating around on a kind of platform under a helicopter, over a lake with sea monsters and sharks in. Beside the lake was a row of shops and a woman firing a gun. Someone said something about the film. Something about a judge and a bank being robbed. Then Lynch was climbing onto the platform. I waved at him and smiled. I got the feeling he wanted to speak. I said" looks like someone is making a film down there. Then I was being auditioned for a part! I seemed to be handing over a piece of paper, or receiving one. Jealous?

When you refer to Lynch as 'the old man' do you mean that he is your father? If not, would you like to be referred to as an old man? Pretty disrespectful. Otherwise, remarkably unremarkable and ordinary-sounding dream, but better luck in slumberville next time boyo.

Could your jealousy BE more thinly veiled?
Old man is a term of endearment. Like in Sherlock Holmes Basil Rathbone films.

Albie, don't you mean 'old boy' or 'my dear boy'? I've never heard somebody ask if others are jealous of others' dreams - that's quite strange, I'll give you that! It would definitely be interesting to be able to plug into someone else's dreams, especially if it was someone you knew well. A lot of dreams are quite broken up, disjointed and hazy aren't they so in any case it would be quite difficult to make sense of them, especially to an outsider. Are you asking if I am jealous of your dream, or the aspect where you are being offered a part in his film? In terms of the dream itself, visually it may have been quite breathtaking for you so maybe one could feel jealous not to have seen it in ones own minds' eye, I don't know. You'd need to write a more in-depth description of the vistas and landscapes and whatever interesting aspects this dream entailed. As it stands you've just described a few basic elements.

Old Man is an affectionate term, obviously depending on how you say it.

Maybe, I've never heard it in a film or read it used as such. Perhaps someone can provide an example? 'Old man' is an affectionate slang word referring to ones' penis, certainly.

Really? Sweet! Now I have an image of Neil Young singing to his penis;
"Old man look at my life I'm alot like you were." Which wouldn't seem to be a good thing on the face of it but if you'd seen what it replaced... rb

i thought the term was "little man". but i guess that depends on the man.
"old man" is definitely a term of relation. "my old man" being outdated american slang for father. "my old lady" being slang for wife. so really, unless you are shouting it in some senior's face, 'old man' isnt generally derogatory.

Because I believe you are jealous of my dream -and my part in one of his dream films - the term"old man" would be one of endearment. If I'd come on here complaining about Lynch getting in my dreams, then it would be an insult. And why not see him as a father? We are a sum of many parts. Lynch has added to us, perhaps our most cherished moments, and therefore has spawned a vital part of us. But this is obscuring the fact that I am starring in his dream film. Me. Surely it will only be a few years before it sinks down from the astral into the physical. Watch out for me.

Wow, I was totally on your side here until you bought a ticket for the crazy train... If you ever get control of your boner for Lynch, try to understand that you are a Lvl 26 Elf Nerd...
I mean, it's one thing for me to have a vial of expired milk that Lynch spit out... It's quite another for me to pour it over my face while saying "Oooh yes, Daddy. Baby needs more hot dog juice."

Elf nerd? Well you smuggle peaches past eye-things. Meanwhile last night more of the film came through for me to look at. It will involve the secret services and my bedroom window looking out on half nude neighbours. How Lynch knew about this is testament to his TM training and his aeronautical finger bones. Climb up me to reach a bird's nest, whydoncha?

Albie, did David Lynch point at you and say, "Do you know who this is?"
"Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it, don't wait for it, just let it happen. Could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot, black coffee. Like this." -Dale Cooper

Aren't you the dreamer and we are only figments of your imagination?

I am indeed the Red King. For this realization I bestow upon you the title of Lord of The White Forest! Now, I really must get back to dreaming for Lynch.

He doesn't have to do anything. But if he hears a knock on his door at eight minutes past eight...he must answer it with his eyes shut. Otherwise the sight of his local White Forest Ombudsman may cause insanity. So I advise updating your clocks.

I'm willing. The Fifth Chapter of The Beige River may not like it, as they have a function planned for next Tuesday. But after that, anything goes.
