Anyone getting this?  Haven't heard anyone mention it on here yet.  I probably will because I don't have a lot of Lynch's non-TP stuff, but I could see how most Lynch fans would already have most of this stuff and only the hardcore ones would get it.  Who is getting it and what are your thoughts on this set?

ERASERHEAD SOUND TRACK

THE SHORT FILMS OF DAVID LYNCH

THE ELEPHANT MAN

THE ELEPHANT MAN EXTRAS – DVD DEBUT

BLUE VELVET – NEW LYNCH APPROVED 5.1 SOUND MIX

DUMBLAND

MYSTERY DISC – DVD DEBUT

BOOKLET – FEATURING RARE LYNCH IMAGERY

Why even bother calling it a "mystery" disc? The content will be divulged as soon as someone who posts on the internet has bought the box. Coy gimmick.

I won't buy it. Blue Velvet is the only thing I like in it. And the box itself is pretty ugly.

Yep, because although I have all Lynch's films one way or another, the only actual DVD I have is INLAND EMPIRE.

Nah. Seems like a total gimmick. Don't really want to fund peace palaces anymore. What will the Mystery Disc be...Lynch doing weather? Ohh how fun, it's a short film of Lynch making a shelf! Wow, a short film with extreme close ups of an asian woman, who is speaking in english but subtitled nonetheless. ooh shes talking cryptically, it must be Lynch! I'm becoming more and more cyncial as the days go on...Maybe the disc will have an interview with Lynch in which he doesnt mention diving within?

Or maybe i'll be proven wrong...the disc will contain FWWM Deleted Scenes, every single piece of unrealsed TP music...but for over 100 quid!!! For films most fans already own!! Arghh

Wow, I'm sensing lots of aggression towards Lynch nowadays.

Is this the result of INLAND EMPIRE (and lots of TM/spiritual mumbo-jumbo)? I hated IE but only because I expect so much from DL. I'm not about to turn against him.

I'm a Lynch fan forever due to the visions he has provided us in the past.  I was extremely disappointed in INLAND EMPIRE just because of what a genius I think he is and I had such lofty expectations.  I hope his next movie is just a tad more mainstream.  Lynch will get the benefit of the doubt from me every time.

Haha i think it's mostly just from me. Actually, I quite liked IE overall. But yeh the TM nonsense really gets my goat- and most of the time Lynch seems like a man of integrity, but then this happens...From the art i take it this is being released by Absurda, therefore Lynch has a certain involvement....For a multi disc boxset (60-70 pounds usually for boxsets...AT THE VERY MOST) this pricing is ridiculous, and it just makes Lynch seem like he's out to make a quick buck. I mean, despite the price I suppose for someone who has never purchased these films it could be very appealing...But nowadays, besides Eraserhead i have never seen any of the included features on sale for any thing more then 5 quid. Sure, Ind Symphony has never had a dvd release, ut it really doesnt warrant this price tag for these otherwise widely available films.

I'm definitely tempted. But a major concern is that we are seeing the beginning of the decline of the standard DVD. So it doesn't feel like an investment paying big bucks for this collection.

I don't have half of those films - because they are my least favourite ones. The mystery disc will be home filmed crud.

What about the video of BV? Is it the remastered SE version? Or is it the tat I shelled out £15 for a couple of years back?

Well, academic as I don't have any money and not likely to have.

The BV has a remastered audio track.

Aggression toward Lynch does seem to be getting awfully trendy these days.  There are those of us, however, who have been irritated with the man for years.  I remember starting to lose my aesthetic boner for him around the time that his website launched (or was supposed to... the first time), which happened to coincide with the infamous Cooter Blurring incident and others.  No one of the things that happened were any great deal on their own, but the sum total of the parts amounts to the craft and majesty of The Art of Being a Tool.

While getting to see/own Industrial Symphony does, in theory, appeal to me, I am similarly uninterested in funding "Peace Palaces" or any of the myriad other funds Lynch's latest "creative" efforts have worked to bolster at the expense of his artistic integrity and his relationship with his fan base.

Geoff is right. That's about the time when I remember first hearing the rumblings. IE was the last straw probably. TM is probably not that big of a deal. If Lynch was making more movies (and good movies) there probably wouldn't be this backlash.

The main reason I am going to get this boxset is because of Industrial Symphony #1 and the Mystery Disc (please be something TP or FWWM related on it!) and the fact that I don't have Eraserhead, Elephant Man, The Short Films, or Dumbland ( although none of these really get me very excited).  I can see how most fans who probably already have this stuff wouldn't want to buy it.  Naming the set a color tends to indicate there will at least be one more future set.

When Mulholland Drive was released on DVD DL blurred Laura Elena Haring's nude scene at her request. She was worried screen captures would end up on the internet.

I thought that was rather gentlemanly of him, myself.  Though it had the ironic effect of ensuring that I stare directly and uninterruptedly into her blur for the scene's duration.

yeah, I'll buy it, but discounted on ebay or a local store. I just broke down and purchased Wild at Heart,Blue Velvet, and Lost Highway a few weeks ago. I feel like we are being marketed to death.

Thanks, Gio. I guess that suggests it will be the remastered video also.

I feel sour about the whole boxset antics because we fans are being exploited. There is never any guarantee that this set will be the ULTIMATE one. Even when an artist dies there are always lost items or demos that surface and incorporated. I can't see this as being the ultimate set because it less than half his output. However, won't rights issues scupper the chance of a Complete Lynch?

I was the mug who bought TP dvds separately and didn't get the Gold Set on principle. Of course if at the time the dvds were initially released we had known the Gold Set was already being planned we would all have waited. What was it between S2 and Gold Set? 1 year? 2 years? Less? These things take time to prepare and clear. Those cynical crooks bled us just enough to keep us alive. The Gold Set was already being prepared when they released S2.

I got scalped once and I don't have no more scalp left, Mr Lynch.

Does anyone on here actually believe the Mystery Disc will contain worthwhile stuff or just DL.com rejects and Lynch buliding a coffee table munching on quinoa?

Are the Dumbland or Dynamic 1-Best of DL.com DVD's any good?

But... but DVD debut. As long as there are obsessive compulsive collectors out there, Lynch could film himself laughing all the way to the bank and someone will still buy it.

Yes, exactly.  It affected the opposite reaction it was intended to while introducing a clunky, artificial element to an otherwise thoughtfully composed shot.  The frame composition (i.e., including her hip area at all) seems to speak against the "gentlemanly" quality of the move.  And he could have, for example, raised the darkness of the shot to obscure the amount of detail it revealed, but he doesnt seem to have wanted to sacrifice the boob resolution!  Gentlemanly?  Not his principle concern there, I would say!

But again... this wasnt really that big of a deal, it just showed him as being a bit lazy with the editing and was one thing among many that soured his favor for a lot of viewers.

I'm just amazed DL failed to smuggle a topless woman (or women) into The Straight Story. It's been a staple of his films since Blue Velvet. As much as I love INLAND EMPIRE (and I really do love it) the "pretty titties" scene makes me feel feel uneasy. It's so pointless, I can't help picturing DL leering at his starlets, telling them to "Make love to the camera pussycat".

I predict his next "woman in trouble" will be a busty vixen in the manner of Russ Meyer who alternates between solving a "mystery" and competing on the topless table-tennis circuit.

And getting back to the matter at hand, if David Lynch had decided to call this Lime Green affair the Menstrual Red Set I'm sure people around him would have swooned with delight and declared it "genius". If anybody pointed an accusing finger he'd just say the unified field told him to do it. On the subject of which, I've been reflecting on this box set business and I can't help feeling the unified field wants me to have Industrial Symphony No. 1 and the Fire Walk With Me deleted scenes on DVD sans box set. I didn't have to dive very deep to catch that particular fish, admittedly, but it's a thick beauty nonetheless. The unified field also said that on reflection it prefers The Cash Cow Box to The Lime Green Set.
