Well I use to post on this board but I either forgot my username or password.. or both. Anywho I'm an Edmonds, WA (10 minutes north of Seattle) resident and I have a new girlfriend which meeeeans I pull my signature move of marathonin' thru all the episodes of TP. I take it to this level only with the special ones :) I've been seeing her for a while now but for some odd reason this weekend I decided it was time. So I hopped on the Gazette to ask a question that I believe I've seen asked years ago... I noticed that the TP festival was this weekend and you can imagine how frustrated I am to have to wait until next year to attend. It must have been all of the TP energy radiating from North Bend that inspired me to start watching again.. weird isn't it? Anywho onto the question.. When I started watching TP it was with the season 1 box set. I had no pilot. It wasn't until I made it through all of season 2 did I end up seeing the pilot. What I'm wondering is should I should start her off with Episode 1 or the pilot? I rented the pilot today so I can go either way. We're starting tonight :D

Watch the pilot. There is no reason not to. At all. Watch it.

Sorry to say, I've never been a big fan of the pilot. It's not bad or anything, but, as most pilots do, it spends most of its time on set up and introductions. On rewatching I find that stuff painfully boring. However, it is essential, if only for the full circle stuff in ep 29.

I think many would argue that the Pilot is right up there as possibly the finest two hours of Twin Peaks for its originality and mood alone. I had never seen anything like it in my life and still haven't to this day. It contains tons of great scenes - the discovery of the body, the news of Laura's death sweeping through town, the Roadhouse fight, and beautiful direction by the one and only David Lynch. The Pilot is awesome.

The Pilot is fantastic. The only reason I possibly wouldn't is it may be a bit daunting (90 mins; emotionally draining) for a newbie. However, it's one of (if not the) best TP 'episodes', and besides, if you didn't watch the Pilot wouldn't it, kind of, not make any sense.

Bold step. I've contemplated making my girlfriend watch TP, but I'm afraid she won't dig it. Then I would have to dump her.

It's a bold step indeed. I tried to ignore it when a love interest of mine didn't want to continue watching the series after episode 2. Now, in hindsight, I realize how much of a death knell that was. "I'm just not interested." What? Really? Wow. FAIL!

Haha. Either you've got a grade A+ memory bank... or you're a moderator who saw 15 login attempts FAIL under the plethra of username/password variations. I am Akbar. >8]
I was also pretty nervous about watchin it with her. She was born in 89... need I say more? I do give her credit for hangin with me through some of my other favorite shows... Lost, Nip/Tuck, House, Office... shes a good series watcher.. which is why I pulled the trigger. We throw it on at about 10:30 last night after returning home from the Olive Garden.. full tummys.. a bit tired. Frustration kicked in after 10 seconds of runtime... she saw the mill in the intro and asks "Ummm, is this about trees?"... I'm like "Are you #$(*& kidding me give it a #($& chance!"... buuut she was just jokin cause she knows the show means a lot to me and she'll never pass an opportunity to flip me chips. We didn't make it very far.. up to Cooper visiting Ronette in the hospital.. around 11:30...thats when she admitted she couldn't keep her eyes open and asked if we could continue watchin tomorrow. All in all better than I expected.. she seemed into it... and I am definitely glad we're starting with the pilot. I had way too many questions for my sis when I initially watched TP Season 1 without seeing the pilot first. My sis and I usually go down to North Bend / Snoqualmie Falls on one Sunday of every month and eat over at the Double R / Twede's. So if my girl actually gets into it... ::crosses fingers::... she'll be able to join us!

My girlfriend started watching the pilot when we were first going out, and just didn't get into it at all. She doesn't like anything Lynch has done, bar Mulholland Drive. Sometimes i think i should get all Leo Johnson on her ass....

Out of everyone I've dated, only one gave the series a go. He was genuinely interested, though we never made it past the pilot before things went sour between us. He DID have a good giggle at Sarah Palmer's expense though...I think it was her massive jewfro that did it. But I forgave him for laughing at the most inappropriate time, as I think some noobs are wont to do. I dated a guy in high school who pretended to have a clue about the series. I bought into it because he had the soundtrack...how could anyone have it and not have a clue? I figured it out when I overheard him and someone else talking about the series and the person asked him "Well who was the killer anyway?" and with a great amount of confidence, my boyfriend said "Oh, it was Dr. Jacoby, but really, it was obvious all along, so I wasn't surprised." DUMP. Waste of skin... I used to think that it was picky to expect someone to like Twin Peaks if they wanted to be a permanent love interest in my life, and so I was never all that concerned about how any significant others felt about the show. But now that I'm older, I realize that if nothing else, that is the one thing they must really be interested in. I know it's odd...as we get older we should get less picky because the options are slimmer. But really. I'm allowed to be just a smidge particular about this one thing. :P

Haha. Great stories. We've watched the pilot and episodes 1 & 2. Shes really diggin it. She just doesn't understand why EVERYONE is so weird. Plus she swears that the Salish lodge is super imposed over the waterfall. I'm like "Babe... I went to my prom dinner there... it definitely exists." haha So once we're through with season 1 I think I'll take her down there... or maybe I should wait until were through the whole series? I'd hate for all the stupid Tweetie birds and overpriced paintings to pollute her image of the Double R diner while we watch the second season!

I agree. I think you are better off watching it by yourself unless you are with a group of already seasoned Twin Peaks fans.

Yeah, it's funny how you can really not enjoy films if you think the other person(s) isn't. They don't even have to say anything, you just get a sense of their mood,
