| QUOTE: I really liked Shelley and also Norma when she was in scenes with Shelley in particular. Pineweasel what do you mean about Mike ('Snake') being different in FWWM? Isn't he only in one scene in FWWM? I'd say he's meant to be unlikeable but I liked the character and his portrayal, if not his later plot with Nadine! |
Yep, you guys are right, I did mean the Pilot. Mike just seems so nasty and aggressive, especially towards Donna (Roadhouse fight) in the Pilot....in the series he almost seems likeable and way toned down....you know? Mike just seemed to go from one extreme to the other and I didn't see that in the other characters as much.

I like Snake the Jerk much better (kind of a stereotypical 80s jerk jock role)

I'm probably one of the few who disliked Pete. With respect to the late Jack Nance, I don't think the character was acted really that well. Whenever a scene called for genuine emotions he just seemed to blink frantically. Liked: Cooper, Major Briggs, Shelly, Bobby Disliked: Josie, Pete, Catherine, Nadine Nadine is a character they should have dispensed with entirely in my opinion, and I had a feeling the writers never quite knew what to do with her either. Over at the Martell's residence I disliked everyone. Josie just kind of sulked around, annoying me with her passive-aggressive attitude, while Catherine always reminded me of those completely "unscary" Days of Our Lives "villains"...
Everyone else had their moments, even Dick, Mike (sad scene in the final episode), and James, who I thought was sort of sympathetic in a ridiculous way. I never really hated Evelyn either. It's just that the character had nothing to do with the rest of Twin Peaks. Leland Palmer is difficult to truly appreciate. Ray Wise is awesome in the role, but has his character working against him. He just kind of sobs his way through the first season, and then halfway into the second season turns out to be the main villain of the piece. What's funny is that his appearance in the Black Lodge in episode 29 always catches me off guard (quickly followed by a slight chuckle). But of all the characters in Twin Peaks, I find Bobby's story arc to be the most satisfying. His character seems like a clichéd jock at first, but then (unexpectedly) develops into a very sympathetic and responsible character throughout the second season. Well that, and he's amusing to watch. For much the same reasons, I find the demise of Ben Horne and Leo to be the most saddening in the final episode. I think Leo's fate especially is undeserved. A lot of his final scenes are strong and touching, even amidst all the Windom Earle nonsense.

I wonder what the offspring would look like if Sheriff Truman and Sarah Palmer did the horizontal hula and had a kid.

Love Audrey (early, naughty Audrey) as she is so charismatic, strange and beautiful. I love that she dances to herself in the middle of the diner, hides around the hotel spying on people and chases the Norwegians ("she was murrrdurrred!") I also love Coop (eccentric, flawed hero, a typical Lynch touch where he can't let good just be good) and Albert (I would get on well with Albert). I also love Laura and Donna in FWWM, I just love the genuiness of their friendship. Pete is great, a sweetie. Leland is too creepy for words, love the character. Andy is lovely. I am neutral about Windom Earle, Shelley, Norma, Ed and Nadine, Donna in the series. I can't stand idiot characters like Dick, Mr Pinkle, Gwen etc. Some characters are larger than life and eccentric, but still work - Jacoby and Windom Earle - but some are just plain annoying. And everyone involved in the Evelyn / James thing...I like Annie (in a neutral way) but I detested the whole "let me walk in your gentle forest and water your geraniums" speech.
The Norwegians are leaving!

Like: Cooper, Bobby, Truman, Audrey, Leo (Season 1 Leo, when he's a prick, not resurrected Frankenstein Leo), Shelly, Hawk, Albert, Harold, Lucy, Ben, Jerry, Jacques, Jean and Windom Earle (even though he never really develops into Cooper's Moriarty which is where I think they were going with him). Dislike: Josie, James, Gwen, Little Nicky, Season 2 Nadine. Neutral: Maddie, Leland, Sarah, Dick, Andy, Catherine, Pete, Gerard, Annie, Donna, Maj. Briggs, The Log Lady.

I always though Josie was meant to be more than she became in the show. She seemed really spooky especially in the DVD menus but she never had much of a part. I don't like Norma or how her Mum. It's funny when you watch the show and you can see actors who don't fit in the town. It's sort of like they think theyr'e in a real soap and the show wasn't being ironic because as a soap it sucked balls. James Hurley annoys me as does Lara Boyle, i like the charcter not the actress. Big kudos goes to Leland and the guy who played him the episode where he is driving with Maddy is hilarious. The mom is a great character.
