I've seen this a few times on telly here, and i swear it's influenced by Twin Peaks. I see eerie similarities to the area where the RR Diner is, the diner itself, the johnson house, etc. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8xRJRuOXNjg

I haven't seen that on TV yet. It's quite good.

Unless the people who made the town were "influenced" by Twin Peaks, there are no eerie similarities. Though the makers of the ad may have been inspired by TP, who knows.

Come on there are obvious similarities Booth - are you trying to be a smart alec (?) - I don't know about eerie but anyway... Some of the similarities could be coincidental, like the misty moutains, but then there's the sparking electricity, the diner in a blue uniform, THE TWINS (boy and a girl, both ginger), the record player featuring and then the lumberjack. It's obvious there's a nod to Twin Peaks there. Heck, its such a good and well-made advert if it was 45 mins long it would equal a proper follow-on to Twin Peaks and interesting enough to qualify as that too!

| QUOTE: Come on there are obvious similarities Booth - are you trying to be a smart alec (?) - I don't know about eerie but anyway... | What I was responding to was the notion that the town, and therefore the townplanning was inspired by Twin Peaks. I am in no way rejecting the thought that the makers of the advert were in some way inspired by TP. But I do not think that many of the things you mentioned are meant as references. Only the makers know for sure.

There's even an owl at the 33 second mark.

... and two mountains at the 36 second mark. But apart from all that, obviously nothing like Twin Peaks at all.

I just thought it might have put a smile on people's faces, i'm not saying it's Episode 30 of Twin Peaks. I thought it was pretty similar that's all. I didn't notice the owl before! Haha. Good stuff.

Booth - are you just being awkard on purpose? How do you account for the shot of the old man who is a ringer for Richard Farnsworth and the legs of a man lying prone on a floor? (This is in the house where the woman is using the phone I think) The advert is not solely referencing TP but The Straight Story, albeit in a loose way. If they were doing it more obviously surely they would contravene copyright

Have you actually watched the advert? So you don't think the man's legs poking out from one room is a little bit of a suspicious image? And then there's a man in the ad who looks just like Richard Farnsworth. Pure coincidence? The razorhead observation is a real clever-dick one but possibly the makers of the ad are also clever-dicks I suppose.

The use of a "Twin Peaks-esque" town is visual shorthand. "We don't have much time to create a mood here, but, hey do you remember Twin Peaks, that was a pretty eerie show right?"
I don't know which this Richard Farnsworth lookalike is, but I can only guess it's the old guy on the couch since he's the only one we really see. Had the guys been riding lawnmowers when getting stuck in the intersection, then that would have worked as a reference, other than that most of these things seem to be analogues.
The guy is on the floor to give the audience the impression that the wife killed him and was about to grind his corpse in the waste disposal, but unfortunately the power went out. Eerie.
