Watch this film again, with this notion in mind. It's uncanny. Especially the opening scenes of a man at a window, (look at his levers. Don't they look like rifles. How many does he pull? 3? How many shots were fired? doesn't the window look like it's been shot at? or through? an allusion to bullets) Then we have a skull like thing having a hole blown in it, like JFK's. Then we fly out of the hole, which has hairy edges. JFK's spirit flying out of his skull wound?
So what is the rest of the film but the dream of a ghost trying to figure something out and being haunted by symbols of death and the spirit's life. Just like in Mulholland Drive.
We have a worm. or is it a slug, as in a bullet? (that in one scene dives into a hole and comes out of another one, only to slide into another hole and in and out...like the magic bullet?)
Lights blowing out.
A bleeding tree? A family tree, bleeding? On a hill? A grassy knoll? (grass? that would explain all the weird dirty grass that sits about in certain sections of the film)
The fat faced blonde on stage? Marylin Monroe? Happy birthday, dear president. Accompanied by obvious sexual imagery.
The picture of a nuclear explosion on Henry's wall? A sure nightmare for any president. Especially considering the Cuban Missile Crisis that brought them closer to nuclear war than at any time since.
The suit Henry wears. A printer? Does this refer to the Federal Reserve? Printing money?
Could be coincidence, could be intentional could be subconscious (i'm hedgeing my bets so I don't come off like a complete whack job
).
Take another look at this film that was written and conceived at a time not long after old Jack (Jack Nance is an apt name here) Kennedy had his skull blown out.
