I am reading The Ecstasy Of Loving God by John Crowder.  It is a book you drink more than read and it is a really fun time of drinking.

I have been reading Devil in the White City.  I love to read true crime stories and this one is awesome the way the serial killer story is intwined with the creation of the World's Fair in Chicago.

Has anyone read The Terror by Dan Simmons?

Haha, I've tried reading Moby Dick for like 43 times.  It's not like I've not enjoyed it either but just can't finish.  Once read it on a whale watching ship off the coast of Provincetown. Now that was atmospheric.

I'm reading a really good biography of Elia Kazan by Richard Schickle.

if you really get desperate, find a condensed version. i've grown to love the chapters where he does nothing but describe plankton, or the riggings, or whatever but if that's not your cup of tea there's still some exquisite language when he gets back to the main story. alternately, an annotated version (i'd recommend the lastest norton version) could be what you need. it's the best book this country has produced, no one should miss it

Dominion by Bentley Little - not for the faint of heart.

Shite, man, I've had a few interruptions in the past two weeks like my mother's nearly dying from peritonitis and her subsequent stomach resection surgery.  Not the perfect atmosphere for leisurely reading or for comprehension but it is a fine recommended diet plan!  Nothing like ICU or virtually any hospital setting to curb your appetite.  : (

But, no, it's not a different bio.

Nefud I would never resort to a shortened form.  It's not that the book is too long, even if that whale business does go on and on and on.  There's always a Cliff Notes option too I suppose...

i just think a shortened version would be a better way to still get the author's original words, just not.....quite so many of them (if that's what stopping you)

Green Mars - Kim Stanley Robinson   This is second book in his Mars trilogy.  I think I've characterized it around here as 'dense', meaning full of science stuff and big words, and it is although I'm thinking one of the reasons I've shied away from rereading it in the past is that it dosen't start in a particularly happy fashion and in fact quite a bit of the trilogy isn't very happy but I guess that's life, quite a bit isn't happy.  Still if you enjoy hard sci fi it might be worth a look, I think it's great.

I finished It and I liked the ending.  I did not think I would because I have seen the movie.  I am reading Bright Lights Big City now.

Just finished Bright Lights Big City.  I think I will start on the Anne Rice novel now.  I also want to read some Charles Dickens.  Believe it or not I have never read anything by Charles Dickens; except for a short version of A Christmas Carol.

I just finished On the Road by Kerouac. I loved it, and I'll definitely be going through all of the others in the Faust series or whatever he calls it.

I also just read Persuasion by Jane Austen, and it was well-written by I just can't help finding the plots so boooring.

I'm reading a collection of short pieces by Margaret Atwood called *Tent*.  They are wonderful, insightful small gems filled with Atwood's special wit.  Like short story haiku.

I'm reading : Rotten - by John Lydon, for the fifth time.

It's such a good read, it feels like your sitting down, having a conversation with John Lydon(Johnny Rotten).

Ben:  "We've laid in a gala reception for your fair-haired boys tonight.  All of Twin Peaks' best and brightest."

Jerry: "We're holding it in a phone booth?"

Does anyone reread favorite books or do you feel life is too short? Answer me!

abit of both. reading pale fire again, but thats because i hav to write on it in uni this year...and catcher in the rye many times for instance...but usually when i reread something it means i love it, so i plough through it, not taking as much time as an unfamiliar book would. on that note, i have to study Ulysses this year...MOST OVER RATED THING EVER.

I asked about this book in the recommended reading thread. Is it good? The bits about Zembla sound like it could go either way.

in all seriousness, it is totally amazing ...to me at least. if you are into 'literary theory' its very good, since it subverts what a novel is, and has vague authorship etc. The Zembla bits were tedious to me the first time around, but on the 2nd readin i laughed at them in the context of what the 'commentary' is supposed to represent; so it adds even more layers to it.  but in short yes, read it read it

I do, all the time.  I just reread Glamorama by Bret Easton Ellis not too long ago.  I have read all his books too many times to count.  I would like to reread It by Stephen King.  I used to read that one more than I can remember.  I just need to find my copy...it's in a box in my parents attic.
