If FWWM is a prequel, how is Annie able to appear in Laura's dream? She tells her that she and Dale are stuck in the Black Lodge, and that Laura should put it in her diary. Obviously Laura doesn't, or else the police would've read it while investigating Laura's murder. Unless those are the pages that are ripped out?

One explanation I heard is that time does not exist in the Black Lodge. What are your thoughts?

It's not a mix-up, but time is mixed up.

I think the most significant thing to remember is that it's a dream. Remember, Laura dreamed about Dale before he was even on the case (from the diary pages sent to Donna from Harold.)

Sorry if my English is not good... however in the "Lynch on Lynch" book by Chris Rodley, David Lynch says that Laura wrote in her diary what Annie told her. And he explains that if the tv series would have been continued, someone could find that page and save the Good Dale from the lodge...

Time doesn't work in the Lodge the way it works in the real world. It's non-linear.

Think back to the beginning of FWWM, when David Bowie appears and begins pointing at Cooper, saying, "And who do you think THAT is!?" He's just been in the Lodge, where Cooper is already trapped, even though in the real-world timeline it hasn't happened yet; as far as Bowie knows, Cooper is trapped in the Lodge already and he's facing off with Bob.

That's a really interesting take on Bowie in FWWM-- I'd just watched it assuming that time was linear (until the Laura dream). I'm going to have to watch it again with this new mind set. I wonder if there's anything else I missed....

I never thought of it as a prequel - to me the movie is a sequel to the TV show - Dale Cooper is trapped in the Black Lodge and is viewing past events that led up to his association with Twin Peaks.

Yeah, it makes my head spin thinking about the "future" or post series parts of FWWM and how to place them together within the timeline and how they correlate with the events "currently" happening in FWWM.  Very confusing, yet also adds to the neverending allure of the TP mystery.

Calling it a "mix-up" makes it sound like you think that Lynch (and writer) forgot that Laura's death occured before the series finale episode. On the contrary, I think they are using that fact to create more mystery, with full awareness.

I like the way FWWM was done making the show 's conclusion being about Cooper getting into the Lodge so he could save Laura.  That's really what the show was about, although I would have liked to have seen what happened to other characters after the series finale.  FWWM did tie things up, just not in a tight bow.

Perhaps Laura was a bit psychic too.

My idea of FWWM is that it's both a sequel and a prequel. A prequel in the sense that we get to see the Teresa Banks investigation and Laura's last days. A sequel in the sense that Cooper's presence in the lodge affects the flow of the aforementioned events. With that in mind, things happen during the FWWM timeline that didn't happen before Cooper arrived in Twin Peaks (and the Lodge)--Chet Desmond investigated the Teresa Banks case, Philip Jeffries showed up and accused Cooper, Annie appeared to Laura in her dream,  Mike tried to warn Laura about her father, etc.
