Hey All,

Years ago, I remember downloading a scan that someone had done with Lynch's sound specifications on how to screen FWWM  in a theater. It was a letter that accompanied the film reels for the theatrical release. Did anyone manage to keep the download of that file or know where I can get it?

Thanks!

do you remember if it was a scan of smething or if it was just typed out. I can search the database and see if I can find it.

Update - I tried a variety of searches in the database "FWWM" and "Reel" or "Sound" and "Instructions" etc and not having much luck.

It was a scan of a letter I believe as I seem to recall Lynch signing it at the end. I tried to google for it as well but no luck.

I remember exactly what you're talking about, but as I recall it was for the theatrical release of Mulholland Dr., not FWWM. He suggests playing it around 3 dB hotter than normal. And he signs it at the end, like you said.

I think it may have been for both as I remember it specifically for FWWM and that it was a 2db increase in master level for FWWM.

I'm sure it will turn up. I think I even saved it on my HD but that was years ago and I don't think I have it anymore.

I watched FWWM in an almost empty matinee at a big theater when it came out -summer of 92, I think. Whatever the instructions for sound, it was so strong visually and sound wise to see the TP prequel after the series on TV. Powerful film when seen in a good theater for sure, more like an experience.

Found the clip on twinpeaks.org although I guess I got the scanned letter for MD mixed up with the usenet post. Here it is:

To: Theatre Projectionists
Re: Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me

David Lynch, the director of Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me
has asked me to contact you regarding the sound level of
his motion picture. Mr. Lynch has put a lot of effort
into the soundtrack of Twin Peaks, and feels that the best
reproduction of sound will be achieved by increasing the
volume 2 decibels above normal. Your efforts to
accommodate Mr. Lynch will surely result in greater
audience enjoyment of the film and, therefore, greater
box office sales.

Thank you.
