I just ordered the TP Gold Box from Amazon and should have it later this week.  Would there be any benefit as far as video quality if the series was put on blu ray?  Since it was originally a tv show vs. a movie I'm guessing probably not.  Also FWWM - will this film ever be released on Blu Ray in hi def?

A Blu-Ray version would look better than regular DVDs, and probably even better than the original broadcasts. It was shot on film just like any feature-length movie, and the series was remastered in High Definition for the Gold Box, then compressed for standard DVD. A less-compressed BR version would look good on an HDTV, a luxury that wasn't around during the first run.

At least, that's how I understand it. As to the possibility of a BR set actually being put together and released... well, that's another discussion. But I think it would be likely. FWWM... I'd say a lot less likely.

I agree. I also see it as being alot less likely with how Lynch totally panned HD in his book. "Sometimes it's more exciting when you can't see what's there in the corner of the screen".

And i'd love to know what film he was talking about where he could see wood-screws in what was supposed to be a metal set due to the HD quality.

But Lynch was referring to the quality of recording a film in HD video, not scanning celluloid at high resolutions. The mysteries of FWWM's cinematography would still be intact, but the footage would look clearer than what DVD can display.

I don't remember who told me this, but I believe Charlie was asked aobut a high-def version of TP last summer at a conference. The problem is that I can't remember the answer! LOL! I know it wasn't a NO, but I also know it wasn't a YES -- I guess it was a "possible." My guess is that it's going to be based on whether or not CBS thinks they can make more money on a Blu-Ray version and if the cost outweighs the profit.

Twin Peaks was filmed on FILM, so a Blu-ray version would look better. PLUS, they already have the HD transfer done and cleaned up... they did that for this DVD release. So they have it all, but then shrunk it and compressed it to be put on DVDs instead.

I think some day it'll come out on Blu-ray, but I wouldn't expect it too soon.

Couldn't have said it better myself.
