Hi, Since I just registered, I thought: 'Let's start a new (and interesting) topic right away!' So here it goes! David says he sees distortions and connections in reality which he wants to display in his movies. I love his movies, and I share his view of reality when he says that there are certain distortions and connections between events etc. In this view of connections/distortions/coinciding of events etc. What about this?=> Friday 27 Januari David Lynch was in the Netherlands (my country) to lecture before students about transcendent meditation. Lynch, however great he is, is not a bigtime news item in the Netherlands, neither is transcendent meditation. Still he appeared on the 2nd page of one of the most important (and intellectual) newspapers of the country (De Volkskrant) on the saturday edition of saturday 28 Januari 2006. The article was about his lecture and it featured a very big foto of Lynch. More importantly to me was that even tough he is not very famous here, he made it to the 2nd page. But what was even more striking was that Issabella Rosselini, who is even less famous than Lynch made it to the frontpage of that same paper (at least a foto of her did). So what about this? Two not exactely very famous people, who once had a relationship, appear about 25 years later in a nationwide dutch newspaper, in very different articles and on completely differant subjects, on the actual same piece of paper, each with a photograph. Well, it just got me thinking, maybe you have experienced a similar thing, let me know about it!

What was the Rossellini article about? I agree it would be great if IE was finished and then DL devoted some time to other issues.

Why the clamour for Lynch to rush to finish this project? Surely fans will know it's pretty customary for his films to be finished in time to premier at Cannes, which is usally the first week of May.

Met cineast Roberto Rossellini als vader en actrice Ingrid Bergman als moeder gaat Isabella Rossellini door het leven als 'de dochter van'. Bij het Filmfestival Rotterdam brengt zij in ... The article was about Isabella Rossellini always being in the shadow of her parents, her father being Roberto Rossellini and her mother Ingrid Bergman. It was also about her role during the Rotterdam Film Festival, were young and starting directors get a chance to show their work to a large audience.

I don't see it as a coincidence if they appeared in the same newspaper or magazine. They've worked together and had a liaison and they're not "not very famous" people. Isabella Rossellini is daughter of one of the best directors since the beginning of time and her mother was Ingrid Bergman, one of the most beautiful and greatest actresses in the world who has worked with directors like Bergman and Hitchcock. Concerning David, he is considered one of the most likeable art film-makers of the latest three decades. He won two Palmes d'or for Wild at heart and Mulholland drive. By now, the series Twin Peaks and movies Elephant man + Blue Velvet are his most quoted everywhere, especially in the movies. I wouldn't say he is not "not very famous". Even though someone could've not seen any of his works, they can't say they never heard of him.

Thanks for that info. I saw IR in "Il Cielo Cade"/"The Sky is Falling" where she does very well. Sad film though. About IR being overshadowed: well, I suppose. I read somewhere that she prefers to do Italian films and American independent films and has never pushed herself as a star the way she might have. About IE for Cannes: the reason we fret is because John Neff commented that he thought Cannes 2006 was probably going to be missed. DL has already spent 2 (3?) years on the project and this is the first major film since MD in 2000/2001. DL has many interests (art/yoga/international relations/his website) and we fret that we have to wait for so long between films, especially as he has trouble with financing movies. There are so many barriers between DL and making his films. No-one begrudges DL his wide spectrum of interests (after all, it helps make his films so rich and rewarding) but anyone who has followed DL's battles over Dune, MD, the cancelling of TP, the struggle to bring FWWM deleted scenes out, etc., knows how difficult it is for an artist to have to work in a corporate business. None of us realistically expects a Lynch film every 1 or 2 years but 5/6 years (since MD) is a long time. I'm sure it will be worth it but there is always the fear that the money for the next film won't appear or that DL will take a few years off for his lectures and never make another film... Monty

Yeah, my life would be pretty empty without DL. I told my counsellor about it but he wasn't listening. He just talked about adjusting my medication. Tell you truth, I always though DL's films were a private universe that I had invented. Nothing that weird ever got made in real life. Huh! Got to stop now. The nice man with the tray of pills wants to make me sleep again. Monty BTW is it only my acupuncturist who using knitting needles and rants uncontrollably while hammering them into the skull with a wooden mallet? I'm feeling a bit funny...

Cheer up, Montana! INLAND EMPIRE will come to an end, it will be released very soon (time flies) and David will keep making movies until he dies.
