The Straight Story featuring Lynch's parents? |

On the IMDB trivia page for The Straight Story, it mentions the following: "This was the first of director David Lynch's films in which his parents appeared."
This totally confuses me. I'd never heard that David's parents were in any of this films. Thus, I'm thinking that this IMDB listing is just saying that this was the first movie of David's that his parents actually went to see (it is a Disney movie after all). Anyone have thoughts or confirmation?

That would be kind of bitchy of them... "What's that son? You're one of the greatest living American film directors? Ahh... make something about old people and we'll think about seeing it."

No, I don't think they had a cameo or anything. Some of Mary Sweeney's relatives were in it as extras, but Dave never mentioned his parents being in it and they are not credited. I knew them and did not see them in the film. BUT - they did attend the premiere at The El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood in 1999.

David's mother was killed in a car accident in Montana in the summer of 2004, just about the time my mother passed away. Dave's father was seriously injured required extensive care - I don't know if he is still with us or not.

I corrected the IMDB entry to say they appeared AT the movie, not IN the movie.
