This past Friday, the students of Mt. Si High were supposed to observe a day of silence for their gay students alliance--- BUT, local hatemongering homophobe Reverend Ken Hutcherson  (his daughter, presumably NOT a lesbian is a student there) organized a demonstration outside the school. How Twin Peaks, to have the adults screw up something for the kids...

Don't you find it interesting that the most conservative people are the biggest haters, fearmongers and complete assholes on the planet?

Yep, that's a shot at your neo conservative, republican, bible thumbing, anti gay, anti peace, anti green, closet homosexuals out there.

I support the right of people to lead their lives as they chose (Libertarian).

I just wonder how high school kids, anyone for that matter, could possibly be silent for a day ?  A moment of reflection, maybe an hour, but a day ?

So, how did things work out ?

Raymond,

Yep, I agree to let folks live their lives in peace. I just find it sad that we have so many groups out there hell bent on pushing their own agenda.

With the rate of ADHD how in the world did a group of high schoolers stay quiet for a day??? (I'm thinking it lasted about 10 minutes)

Yeah, I think if folks minded their own business we would be ahead. We have that 1st amendment which allows haters to do what they do, but in the long run as offensive as it is to endure kooks, we are better off with the right to assemble and speak freely. The good part is you and I get to call them on their bullsh--.

I have no issue with letting people "do as they wish". The issue I have with the Gay Rights movement is that its not enough to accept it... we have to embrace it, we have to like it, we have to in essence "pimp it". Thats where I draw the line. I dont want it "pushed" on people and thats sometimes what I feel happens with this stuff. Parades, demonstrations, days at school, etc, etc. Cant people just be whatever sexual orientation they want and let it be that? Do they have to "ram it down our throats"? Not saying this happens all the time...but I dont want my kids being taught about any "alternative" lifestyles..... they can find out on their own I suppose.

I also would prefer not to pay for peoples lifestyle choices either. You can do whatever you want, just dont send me the medical bills...ya know???

Just because people dont fully "embrace" the gay lifestyle doesnt mean they are bible-thumping haters....thats a little harsh, isnt it?

Most liberal causes are about a lot of lot loud whining and feeling persecuted.  I don't know who you're quoting up there, but a major conservative flaw is getting overly sensitive and irritable about causes that don't have anything to do with them.  Too far left, too far right.  Either way, a lot of people need to relax.

Hmmmm...Thats a good point 12 and s2micky, you've got me thinking...

I 'll say again we would be better off if people minded their own business. Period.

And deliver us from social programming of all stripes. Left and right.

Yeah, I am a follower of TMZ and PerezHilton, but that is a passive pastime. I don't actively stalk or interfere with their lives. Or assemble and advocate that they toe some type of behavior that I like.

Mr. Booth, what is your occupation Sir ? Thanks in advance.

This day was merely about being accepted & not violently persecuted, as many homosexuals still are in this day & age. And what "medical bills" are you referring to?  What, if you wind up in the hospital because of some  wonderful gay basher?

I never used the words "bible thumpin' haters". There are plenty of loving, accepting Christians out there (as Jesus would have been). The irony here is that Rev. Hutcherson was a special guest speaker at the school on MLK Day. First he honors the great civil rights leader, then he shows up to persecute another minority group...

Yes, Christianity is quite complex. "Love thy brother" (unless your gay or dont believe the same way as us)

I agree that there are some true spiritual people in the world, but I'm hopeless baffled by the way churches or ministers use the bible to perpetuate their own private agendas.

Was BOB bisexual? He wanted to possess Laura so he wanted to become a woman...But that of course is not the same as being gay.

This is a sentence and you are reading it now.

The thing about the Bible is that it's a book. And when you interpret any text, especially ancient ones that have been re-written by multiple authors and translated etc etc is that everyone is going to see something different in it. Furthermore, if the Pope can bend and modify Biblical ideas to work in a modern world, with scientific evidence (did you know not recycling is a sin now? That quite a departure from Genesis 1:26-28) then the "fundies" should, too.
I mean, you could take it one step further and say that since gay people can't procreate, they are helping to heal the planet!

ALSO- getting squeamish over the idea of what gay people do (I would say rubbing it in your face would be two guys or gals screwing on your front lawn) it just stupid.  When I go to Walmart and see a family of food blister troglodytes, the idea that they humped makes me kind of ill, but it's not reasonable to complain that they shouldn't leave the house and expose children to the horror of the idea of them copulating.  It's in my face. It's aberrant.  But who am I to tell them that?

Surely I can't be the only one sat here thinking 'This is nothing to do with Twin Peaks'?

Don't we all remember that gay parade in episode two when Bobbie and Mike and Jean Renault...oh wait, that was never screened, filmed, written and more than likely; not even thought of.

A more tenuous link to Twin Peaks I have yet to see!

I danced and died a thousand times!

The magic day of silence took place at Mt. Si High School located in North Bend, WA. The School itself was used as Twin Peaks High School.  That's the relevance; otherwise this thread make no sense.
