I couldn't find a thread on this so here is one.

Question: In intro to The Grandmother DL says "I needed three pieces to submit and a script of something you wanted to do. And I had that" Maybe I am being dense but I thought he only had 2 pieces: 6 men and The Alphabet. What was the other? Remember that The Grandmother was the apparently the 3rd film. So what is the missing film? Any ideas?

Yes, about entering the AFI. But Gardenback was never made - not even started. That was the script he submitted but he had to have 3 films and 1 script. Gardenback was his script (or was it the Grandmother?). Either way, he only had 2 films at the time he applied. What was the 3rd film? He talked about something he shot and the film was procesed or exposed wrong and it was a write-off. Still only leaves him with 2 films though...

He had 2 shorts when he applied for the money to make The Grandmother. He had three shorts when he applied to the AFI.
