Well check out this video to see how "Native American Self-Reliance" has altered the landscape. They are scheduled to open between October-December of this year.

Sigh.

Industry in the woods. How Lynchian. That was a really neat video.

Wasn't that land part of the Snoqualmie Vineyard, or near it?  You know, I never went there.  I must say- it looks a lot more fun now!

Yup, that's the place. It was the exit we used to take to get to the Salish before the Snoqualmie Pwky went in. (YECH) You'd turn right and then a quick left. Every time we'd pass by I'd call it the Whiiiiiiiiinerrrrrrrry in a whiny voice.

Anyway it looks like it could be a great place for the 2009 One-Eyed Jack Casino Party during the TPFest! Chris Mathews, if he's become a disgruntled postal worker by then, may want to check out the job opportunities on the casino website. Looks like it'll be a great place to work and it's going to be open 24-7 with over 600 employees. And whadda view!

Ohhh, man. If it's open in July, I may be missing some Fest events.

They're saying October through December as the scheduled casino opening.  By July 2009, it should be a well-greased slot machine heaven on earth.

So now the Salish Lodge belongs to the Muckleshoot Indian tribe and the casino is owned by the Snoqualmie Indian tribe. Maybe they'll purchase the Weyerhauser Mill and turn it into a condo complex?

Oh, the changing landscape of the Pacific Northwest. Let's hope no one touches Taco Time in North Bend!

Haunting video. It goes to show –Don't get attached to anything that doesn't turn a profit because sooner or later it's going to get razed. People seem to have an insatiable appetite for more, more, more. GOTTA GET MORE NEW STUFF! Okay, that's the end of my rant.

Speaking of me (this was one disgruntling postal day, but I'll be back for more tomorrow), I doubt I'd work in a casino. Plus, it's too far from home. Anywaaaayyyy, I recall going by this site the year that SUSAN talked me into actually being the bus tour guide (how looong ago was that?). They were having a wedding on site at the time. The driver decided to drive up there anyway, resulting in a buch of disgruntled matrimonial revelers chasing us off...

So sad :(

I have such fond memories of that site :( It was always so quiet...unlike most other sites. You could actually go there, be there alone for some time and try to picture, try to feel the time the scenes were actually filmed. Pick up the moments you would never forget.

I also remember a wedding being planned (tents being set up) one time I was there. Also remember a gravesite there, now I'm wondering did they just raze everything or perhaps some parts are still intact? Anybody been there recently?

Cheers

God only knows how the Snoqualmie Indian tribe reconcile well-lit car parks with healing the land. I've spent my whole life feeling angry at the way the Native Americans were treated and even as a small child I sided with the Indians rather than the cowboys, who I never warmed to. I'm humming Big Yellow Taxi and feeling swindled as I type.

On a more positive note I'm pleased the Salish Lodge is now owned by the Muckleshoot Indians rather than the vacuous corporate zombies who ran the place when I visited. Let's hope the Muckleshoots aren't planning to equip that with slot machines and a multi-storey car park too.

I ran from the noise and the silence, from the traffic on the streets
