What is it about TP and Lynch's films that provokes discussion more than so much other television or film, even top quality TV/film? I still haven't finished rewatching TP for the first time and there are more than a few episodes (the obvious ones) that I'm really not to keen on but I love discussing it and it's the same with Lynch's other work, of which BV and FWWM are the only ones I've seen twice (something which'll definitely change soon) There just seems to be so many elements worth really close analysis, which I really can't be bothered to do with anyting else I watch.

There are filmmakers that stimulate us intellectually, and then there is Lynch. He's a master at manipulating our subconscious, probably because he follows his own so closely and unquestioningly. Then we go back and try to rationalize what he's done. On a surface level, Twin Peaks in particular has all those overlapping and interweaving storylines. Lots of characters and little moments to talk about. TP is hardly the only show that follows this format, but it's the combo of story and the above that makes TP so open to discussion.

I've also noticed that this is the only forum where I read everyone's posts and they're all very coherent and there's a lot of value on reading them. I suppose this is because the other main forum I visit is a Spurs football forum, so there isn't really gonna be too much intelligent discussion.
