Alright now hear me out now and tell me what you think, there is a movie called little Nicky, and Adam Sandler movie, in Twin Peaks there is a kid named Nicky and Dick refers to him as little Nicky. IN the movie Little Nicky Adam Sandler plays the devils son. In Twin Peaks Dick and Deputy Brennan think he is the devils son! is this a sly reference to Twin Peaks calling it little Nicky? what does everyone think?

There also a movie called Whatever Happened to Harold Smith?, it doesn't have anything to do with Twin Peaks either.

Nothing. The writers forgot about him, just like they forgot about nearly everything that could have made episode 17-22 bearable. Instead of a short storyline about Donna feeling guilty about betraying Harold's trust (and maybe going to his funeral?), we get Donna helping James escape the evil clutches of Evelyn and Malcolm. If that's not a missed opportunity, I don't know what is.

I agree, I really hate that jump in time in episode 17 (though it's a pretty good ep in itself), as well as screwing up the consistent pace of the show to that point, it also means we miss out on key emotional opportunities. It would have been easier to maintain the dark mood, and not totally abandon the Laura Palmer storyline if we saw the town recovering from the disastrous events that have come before, and mourning for Maddy, Harold, and Leland. The Windham Earle storyline would also have been more threatening if his messages came in this kind of atmosphere. Josie's darker storyline would also be less out of place. Would hardly have fixed all the show's problems, but it would have definitely improved the quality of the episodes.

I see why they were doing this after Leland's death, but it doesn't work. In my view, they should have found Maddy later and solved the case in episode 18 at the earliest. That would have given the Earle plot time to kick in, they would have had time for a funeral for Harold, Leland would have been on the loose for longer, and the wheels would have kept spinning instead of screeching to a halt. The problem is that every plot reaches a peak in episode 14-16, not just Laura and Leland, but also Donna and James, Audrey and Ben, and even Leo, Shelly and Bobby. They should have evened it out. Also, if they'd kept the time schedule, Leland's funeral would have been in episode 21. That's an episode that needed that kind of action badly.

Why is Season 2 so much longer than the first season. I know it was probably the studios but if they'd just shortened it TP may have lasted much longer in the long term.

TP was a midseason replacement, the pilot didn't air till April or something, leaving scant time in the TV season for episodes to air. After that ended it was so successful that ABC picked it up for a full 22 episode order. The series almost ended without the last six episodes (which would have made the exit Josie's death), but mercifully ABC listened to the outcry of fans, and the series managed to go out with a bang. Personally I would not have been one of those crying for me after the pretentious and lame ending of ep 23, but in the long run I'm extremely glad they made more. Evenren, you made some great points about what they should've done. I couldn't agree more... ep 16 has a really rushed feeling, like we missed a couple episodes. Suddenly Albert's there and Coop has one day to catch the "real" killer... all of it seems way out of place after the slow pace of episode 15. But I guess audiences couldn't take any more of the killer running around free after they knew who it was... A dramatic way for them to catch the killer would've been if Donna befriended him after James left, and turned to him as confidant, then he tried to kill her and Coop saves her at the last second... would've kept Donna in the story too, and given her a chance to come to terms with Laura's death, and truly say goodbye. Might've been a bit repetitive though with Maddy's murder having occurred so recently, but it would still be better than what we got.

I always thought that it would have been great if the killer would have been revealed to viewers only and the hunt for the killer could have gone on for several episodes. Yet I love episode 16, even if it's not perfect. It does feel a little rushed and there's little bit too much of that "let's wrap this up for good now"-feeling to it.

even and I have been working on that exact type of angle over at dugpa. It's been a lot of fun. But we broke it up that Peaks was able to have shorter seasons -so far, I think we've cover twelve episodes so far. We took the angle of Leland not being discovered for some time, and I think it works a lot better. Doubtful, Peaks would have been allowed to have shortened series before the advant of shows like The Sopranos and even Lost now, but we treat it like it was in a perfect world for creative freedom from the network.
