It was hard picturing him as this athletic jock who is captain of the football team.

He better fit the image of the town troublemaker into drugs and crime and such with his cool hair and leather jacket.

The combination of the two just did not make much sense.

"Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it, don't wait for it, just let it happen. Could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot, black coffee. Like this."  -Dale Cooper

My secret suspicion was always that Bobby was supposed to be a Gary Hershberger type, and then Dana Ashbrook came along and they wanted to push him up front instead. I checked the Northwest Passage script synopsis in WIP10, and it mentions Mike and Bobby plenty but doesn't describe them in any way, so I have nothing concrete with which to back up my idea.

I just google image searched for "football team" + various years in the 50's, and everyone looked pretty greasy. I wonder if his leather jacket with the "T" was school issue, or a personal touch?

Hershberger is such a cracker. No way could Mike handle Shelly and Laura.

Yeah, i've also noticed this discrepancy.. But then again, a athletic jock is a steretype image, like a stupid blonde or other stereotypes. So in one way it gives the Bobby briggs character a more realistic aura. In any case he is likeable and entertaining..... A great scene that comes to mind is when he is moved to tears by his fathers dream or vision.

What i wanted to say is that no human being is a pure or only an athletic jock. I mean, i really hope that is not the case!! And a character who is only that would not be an entertaining character at all. it would be an cliche

Something other that comes to mind: i've always had the impression that Bobby briggs never use drugs throughtout the series... For one reason or another he seems kinda sober to me, he sells it that's for sure.

Does he use it in the diary? I cant remember.

This is a sentence and you are reading it now.

at the sound of sawing wood (the packard mill/sawmill), " Betty, Bobby, I found a pinecone!"  or was it "babbee, Bobby, I found a pinecone!"  not exactly how Jacques sounded the maybe babee part over the phone conversation with Bobby before Bobby & Laura had a highnight at the  packard mill/sawmill. gotta watch tp/fwwm yet again. I am purty sure Laura said Betty though  :)

Sure does. On New Year's Eve Laura and Bobby smoke a joint (and do it).  And after Bobby shoots whoever climbs in the truck bed after the raid, Laura leaves Leo and Bobby doing lots of cocaine together.  There are probably more, I can't recall.

The jocks in my high school that I knew drugged it up as much as the burnouts, some of them were close friends of mine.  Some of them wore white hats and baby-blue button downs (you know the kind,) but they mostly wore whatever. When Bobby wears flannel it reminds me of them.

Hmm... Maybe i should read that diary again. It's a damn fine book. That flannel shirt and the jacket tied around his waist. It reminds me so much of the early nineties. It reminds me of Grunge.

My husband and I thought the same thing...Given the time of the series, and the location, it was right before the Seattle grunge movement got really big. Don't know if it's relevant...doubt it, but I figured I'd throw it out there.

Well, regarding Twin Peaks and Grunge, Kurt Cobain's home town was Aberdeen, Washington, and he once described it as "Twin Peaks without the excitement".

Another thing that I noticed is he doesn't seem too upset when he finds out that his girlfriend Laura died.  I was always thought that was odd.

And what is he about to do to that crucifix in the funeral episode?
