Not sure if this has been posted before (probably) but anyways...... Something strange is happening near the end of episode 11. When Coop is sitting at the roadhouse bar waiting for the bookhouse assistance he requested from Truman (and Truman is the one showing up , surprising Coop, Truman clearly regards himself as the best bookhouse boy). But what i want to point out is the suddenly different accent Coop is speaking with when he calls for the bartender. He sounds like one of the Renault brothers, calling out "Bartender" with a perfect french - canadian accent!! This is truly strange! Maybe he is briefly possessed by Jaques Renault's ghost who is hanging out in his former workplace..

I can't hear an accent. He says "bartender" kinda quickly which might change his voice a bit but I still think he sounds like Cooper.

Sometimes he talks through a closed-teeth smile, too, like the Howells on Gilligan's Island. This could be Yakima phonology, dunno.

Strange that you don't hear it, folks! I thought it was such an striking resemblance...... I also hear such french - canadian accent from Shelly(its not so poingnant as Coop at the bar, though), when she's recuperating at the hospital and Bobby come to visit. The way she says "Bobby", it's sounds like it is jaques who's saying it. Well, Jaques has a deeper voice than shelly he! he!, but the accent....... Maybe its my imagination. The way he kind of lifts the word toward the end is sort of reminiscent of the French-Canadian method of accenting the last syllable exceptionally strongly when working a multi-syllable English word into a French sentence. I wouldn't mistake it for that myself, but I do live in Montreal. (On a related note, the best French-Canadian accent on the show by a good stretch is Michael Parks.)

Being from Spain it's hard for me to know when an american actor does a bad foreign accent... However, I've always found Bernard's to be odd. "He da bartenda, isn't he?"

Michael Parks accents are always good, in everything. Good call. Walter O. said he was intimidated by the thought of doing a French-Canadian accent, so he said he just imitated Pepe le Pew. At least he was honest. Regionally, the Renaults should all speak Quebec French (or one of it's creoles.)

Walter's was not bad, probably because he didn't push it too hard (though it did come and go). The fellow who did Bernie sounded more Cajun-ey/New Orleans to me...

I love Jacques' accent in FWWM. Maybe it's not correct, but it seems RIGHT. "Rawd-ows? [...] Maybe, Bobby, bay-bee". He had a steep learning curve, though, considering his accent is almost gone in episode 4.
"What credit card do you want to put that on?" "Caash, prease."

I think Walter Olkewicz's accent is great. Plus I know what the topic creator is talking about, Coop has a weird intonation of the word "Bartender."

See: Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins. I remember working with a dialect coach in high school for our production of "Tom Jones" and the first thing he said to me was "Dick Van Dyke is an idiot. If I find you've been watching that movie for practice, I will FREAK." We mimic Bernie here at work all the time. It's entirely too much fun. What's even funnier is we have this programmer who is originally from Hong Kong, and his accent is half-faded, but what remains sounds dead-on like Bernie. He finds it hilarious that this amuses me so.
