I've started to watch TP through again recently. I know must of you must have seen the episodes much more but I mainly joined the board for the Lynch section (which does not seem to be  posted on enough for my liking). But watching TP again I just love it so much more. It always intrigued me but was not my favourite show but now it's definitely a contender. I don't know why I've enjoyed it so much more because obviously the WOW factor isn't there but maybe it's the fact that I know what to expect and can just sit back and enjoy. I also love Audrey Horne so much more, when before for some reason I just found her character strange.

I've just watched Episode 4 (the Laura's Funeral episode) and something that I found strange the first time aswell was the way that Shelley mocks and imitates Leland's jumping on the coffin. There is something comic among the tragedy in this scene. But overall Shelley is a largely likeable character and it doesn't fit in with her personality to find a father in grief at his daughter's funeral so hilarious. I am disliking James more though now (Laura, Donna and Maddie for such a stereotype   it makes me angry!)

Perhaps Shelly didn't like Laura very much. Maybe Shelly suspected that Laura was having a secret relationship with Leo, and resented both of them. Also, Shelly was secretly seeing Bobby behind Laura's back. A veritable love quadrangle!

There is a scene in FWWM that shows that Shelly indeed doesn't like Laura: when she refuses to help her with the Meals on Wheels saying she's busy...when she's not...

That's far from laughing at her grieving father though. Whether she liked Laura or not it just seems uncharacteristic of her, unless you think she is a callous person.

As the tagline from FWWM says "In a town like Twin Peaks, no one is innocent". Shelly is a likable character, a nice and good girl and since she is also a victim we feel sorry for her, first because of Leo and later with Bobby, which may or may not be another bad choice... However, that little scene shows us another side of Shelly, a dark one... What she does is very cruel, but she's just following the rest of the town's oblivious attitude towards Leland's pain (the Icelanders party comes to mind). Out of character? Maybe, but believe me, it was no accident... I'm sure that the filmmakers wanted to show us that side of her, like they wanted to show us briefly that Bobby was in fact an scared, weak kid in his scene with Jacoby...

I personally think it's great.  We're all great people, and also sometimes insensitive. It's human nature.  And Twin Peaks is all about the duality within.

However cruel it might seem, it humanizes Shelly as a character all the more.  And Bobby was Laura's boyfriend, so there could be some hidden delight there.  Also, this was a murder mystery, and that scene could be scrutinized and keep Shelly on the suspect list.

You wouldn't happen to be the same Audrey Horne that is on Dugpa Forum would you?

Because this thread is really brilliant: http://dugpa.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=511

Amazing thread, Audrey... I'm reading it while listening "Audrey's Prayer"...

Were you around the Gazette when I posted my weekly character threads? Because I think we never discussed Audrey (I preferred more obscure characters so the discussions would have been fresh, saving Coop, Audrey or Laura for later) and that Dugpa.com thread is awesome, perfect candidate for official Audrey thread in every Peaks related website... So folks, if you dig the Gazette and its old character threads looking for Audrey...check out our Audrey's one!

hot damn! thanks for the kind word.  honestly, I didn't think anyone was reading it, so I wasn't churning it out as fast.

I still think Audrey and Cooper are two of television's finest creations -well, at least the front end of the series. (and I know my TV history)

So I'll gladly start it up again.  I don't know why I did it anyway -I guess this year has just been revisiting Twin Peaks and it brings up all the old feelings -and when it was on there wasn't a means to talk about it like there is now to a large audience via internet.

I'm kinda geekily obsessed right now in reimagining the second season if it didn't go off track and everyone got what they creatively wanted. Check that out too -it's over at Dugpa -and throw your two cents into the pot.
