So how in the heck does Coop get to TP so quickly? I think that when he's talking to Diane he says that it's around 11:30 am on the day that Laura was found and he's already driving to TP?? What are some thoughts/hypotheses about why he was called in right away and how he managed to get from PA to WA so fast? I know that he was involved w/ the Banks case, but I didn't think that the local officers expected that LP was linked to TB right away.

Harry mentions Ronette crossed the state border and that's the reason they give in the series for the FBI entering the case... How he travels so fast? I don't know, the need for the main character to be introduced early in the episode maybe? A similar time mistake that the ones that cause Shelly to leave the Diner early in the morning or having Lucy working almost 24h straight... The writers probably didn't care about those things...

This isn't necessarily a mistake; Shelly could have got in at 5AM for the breakfast crowd, worked half a shift, and left when Heidi got there to take over.  We know Bobby was already late for school at that time, so it was probably after 9AM.  5-9 is four hours, which is a half shift... so that's fine.

 This, however, is pretty sketch.

Well, Laura is found very early in the morning. Pete goes fishing before he goes to work at the mill. When does Ronette walk across the bridge? Still pretty early, I would guess. Although I have no idea where Lewis Fork is, having Cooper be told about Ronette would take some time, then driving a considerable distance, then have lunch at the Lamplighter Inn AND be in Twin Peaks before midday. It seems a bit much.

Nice. I always considered Shelly's early departure from work, well done, geoff, but I agree it is a little sketchy not to mention one of everyone's favorites, football practice in late February.

Great explanation for the Shelly "problem" Geoff... Excellent point about Bobby. The thing is that with that winter look, those clouds, etc. all the morning scenes from the Pilot look to me like they are set very early in the morning; besides, the diner is not crowded at all and Shelly and Bobby drive through a deserted country road, no cars (well, one from the police), no people... Never occurred to me that it could be set later in the morning. Also....I've never had a job that required me to start at 5 am!!

The Lucy thing gets even worst when Harry comments that she sets the doughnuts and coffee up "every night".

lol, these time slip ups are, indeed, very funny. as well, it strikes me funny that Lucy puts out so many donuts!! enough for a police men's ball...

i have always wondered why there are no scenes in TP with snow. i'd love to have seen a blizzard. it looks like TP was filmed in autumn. perhaps a freak squall could have come through.

it's pileated, isn't it?

Ronette crossing the state line. Hmm. Is the state line the river (the bridge which Ronette is seen crossing)? In which state was the crime committed and which state is Ronette walking into? ANd if the line isn't the river then how do they know ROnette crossed the line because the crime scene was found later and ROnette was mute so she wasn't giving any info.

BTW, sunrise on 24/2/1989 was 0701h in Bellingham, WA, nearest latitude I could find to position of TP. Just thought you ought to know that.

Just after Ronette crosses the bridge a railroad worker finds her... That's the other state, Idaho, right? My guess is that the traincar was in Washington, Leland was heading home when he left the bloody towel in the tracks, Laura's body in Black Lake and the pieces of the diary in Glastonberry Grove before entering the Lodge... Ronette, however, went the other way, following the tracks, crossing the state where that man found her. The bridge wasn't necessarily the state border...

Ok. So if the bridge isn't on the state line then only way the police knew she had crossed the line was matching the description from Mr & Mrs Pulawski (incidentally, Mr Pulawski played by a different different actors in pilot and series) with Ronette as she had no ID and wasn't talking. Right?

I'm sure the sheriff's office or the state police (which we also see involved, taking Mr. Pulaski from the mill or informing Laura's teacher) told the Idaho authorities that there was a girl missing related to a murder, in case the killer or the girl showed up there... The railroad guy found her, called the police and they IDd her inmediately...

And the case was gaining notoriety in the media. We saw a report about it on TV at Shelly's house, even a photo of Ronette...

Fair enough, I know I'm happy to have Coop there as soon as possible!

It seems to me that a suspension of disbelief is required here, as there's prolly no way Coop could have been called in early enough to make it to TP right after lunch.

I know it isn't canonical, but in My Life, My Tapes:

- the final entry is at 6am on February 24, in which Coop already knows about the murder and that he's going to investigate it

- four days earlier he was in San Francisco, so he may still be

He arrives in Twin Peaks at 11:30. Given the resources available to him as an agent of the FBI, I think it's feasible for him to have gotten ready, flown from San Francisco to Spokane, and driven to town in 5.5 hours. But not if he drove from Seattle.

Stopping for his breakfast-time lunch cuts it pretty tight, though.
