With too much time on my hands today I was thinking of Killer BOB as an interdimensional Charlie Manson, with the Lodges serving as a sorta Spahn Ranch & the various inhabitants as his followers (with Garmonbozia as his controlling drug of choice). Just saw a documentary on The Byrds & their producer Terry Melcher was asked who the most obnoxious musician he ever worked with was. Without a pause, he said David Crosby. #2 was Charles Manson!!! (Melcher produced some demos for C.M., using members of Phil Spector's Wrecking Crew, but no record companies were interested in signing the aspiring singer/songwriter. Melcher & Mark Lindsay were then living in the house that Sharon Tate et al. were murdered in. The infamous hit was actually intended for T.M. Ooops, wrong "piggies"...)

Brian and Carl Wilson of the Beach Boys have also produced Charles Manson songs. Unfortunately, they've never been heard by anyone outside the group. Dennis Wilson also stole two (though one of them is disputed as a Manson original) of Charlie's songs and recorded them with the Boys - without crediting Charlie who had been arrested before the album was released. Charlie was also a friend of Neil Young's at one point. Lots of interesting stories there.

| | Writer, lead vocal: Dennis Wilson/Charles Manson uncredited lyricist Recorded: September 11, 1968 Length: 2:31 Discography: - The Beach Boys (The 20/20 Album) This song was originally written by Charles Manson and titled "Cease To Exist". Dennis Wilson made some minor lyrical changes to it, which supposedly upset Manson greatly. |

The other one being "Be with Me", though that's disputed. Dennis Wilson's logic for cheating him out of the credit was that Charlie owed him a lot of money. Dennis pretty much financed Charlie's existence - and drug use - for a while. When he more and more turns about to be a creep (Charlie threatened Dennis and his kid at one point but instead got his ass kicked), I don't really blame Dennis for stealing a song in return.

Dennis eventually abandoned his own house, because he couldn't get Charlie & Family to leave!!! Peter Tork was in a similar situation, when he was unable to rid himself of the various sycophants that crashed at his place!!! Speaking of, I'm sure most of you have heard that Manson was one of the dozens of aspiring hopefuls who auditioned for the Monkees (it's been disputed, but I SO want it to be true). Could you imagine: Mickey, Davy, Peter & Charlie!?! "Battle of the Bands, huh? The Jolly Green Giants are DEAD, man!!!" "You're not in love with Davy, baby! I'M your man!!! I'm inside your head, chickie poo!!!" "WOW!!! This wool hat is feeding on my BRAIN!!!" & "Have you guys ever tried sniffin' liquid paper?! WHITE OUT, DUDES!!! Erase erase ERASE!!! Start ALL OVER AGAIN!!! WOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!"

I wanted this to be true when I read it too, but unfortunately it's been not only disputed, but proven wrong. He was way too old to become a Monkee, he was in jail at the time, possibly more reasons too - bottom line is he just wasn't there.

True - Manson was in jail in 1965 and 1966 - he got out in 1967 and the Monkees were already formed by then.

Okay, but it IS true that Stephen Stills was rejected for having bad teeth & put in a word for his near look-alike pal Peter Tork. Just recently heard that the legend circling that Jagger & The Stones being originally cosidered to play Alex & his droogs in Clockwork Orange was just a rumor spread by Andrew Oldham (he even wrote some early liner notes in a nod to Burgess). But so prevalent was this "myth" that Malcolm McDowell repeats it as gospel in the recent C.O. commentary!!!
