"Wrapped In Plastic" in NYC? |

Hello everybody! I recently won a Twin Peaks marathon that took place in my city (I´m from Valencia, Spain). After seeing the 29 episodes and being the last one who answered the highest number of questions about them I was awarded with the Gold Box and a travel to New York! This will be the second time I will travel abroad (I went to London three years ago) and I was wondering if someone could help me by saying if there are good comics shops in NYC. Do you know if it would be possible to find second hand issues of "Wrapped In Plastic" magazines? I ask you this because I know that some time ago in Barcelona (that isn´t very far from Valencia) you could find some back issues in this kind of shops but I´m afraid it´s not possible now. Any clue? Thank you in advance!

Felicidades compañero!! I saw the news about that marathon on TV, but while I would have love to attend I just couldn't... I'm glad a fellow gazetteer won it! What questions did they ask?

Thanks Gordon! The first phase were 15 written questions and the 11 people with best results would pass to the second phase. I personally found these ones more difficult that the ones of the second phase. I couldn´t ask 2 of these 15 questions: "How much does a coffee cost at the Double R?" and "What knid of "attraction" was under construction at One eyed Jack?". The second phase questions were oral and individual. I was lucky because some people got questions I couldn´t have answered ("What are the names of the twin sisters in "Invitation to love?" or "What was the name of Leo´s truck?"). I recognize that a combination of knowledge and luck made me won the prize. By the way.... Does anybody know about any comics shop in NYC?

Ok, let me try... The sisters are Emerald and Jade and Leo's truck is named Big Pussycat, but I have no idea about the other questions. An "attraction" at One Eyed Jacks? The only thing that comes to mind is a sign we see announcing thermal baths when Coop and Harry rescue Audrey... And I think we saw a sign about the coffee at the Diner too...

That´s right Gordon! Yes, I wrote "attraction" because I couldn´t find the right word... Maybe "facility" would be more accurate? I remembered that detail later, I think there was a signal saying something about "Tiberian baths", which I suposse means thermal anyway... And I don´t know in which episode we can see a sign about coffe´s price but I´ll look on...
I smiled when I read one of the questions because it asked "According to Mike, who can see Bob?" and I had to write the wrong translation the Spanish dub has (you know, in English is "the gifted and the damned" but in Spanish he said literally "the poisoned and the damned", what I have always thought it´s a nonsense translation!

Gift means poison in German, and several other languages. Maybe there was an incompetent German translator in charge?
In some languages gift also means (to be) married. The married and the damned - One and the same to some.

In Norwegian that's an age-old pun. Gift = married and poison. Which might be why to poison someone (the verb, "å forgifte") sounds like something along the lines of "to empoison".
"What credit card do you want to put that on?" "Caash, prease."

Wow, Booth & evenreven, wow! All these explanations make me think about MIKE´s ring... "the married", those who wear the ring... Just a coincidence?

I don't know how many times I've seen TP, too many to remember, but only twice dubbed in spanish (back in 1993 and 5 or 6 years later in old VHS tapes). I'm so familiar with the original version that those would have been my answers, the original... If they based the answers in the dubbing then....they deserve the most horrible and painful death... What are the dwarf's good news? That guy you like is going to come back to luxury. What does Mrs. Tremond's grandson say after Donna leaves? Hajem sub sukita. How many logs does the Log Lady have? Many have. I'm sure Henry X knows what I'm talking about...

That´s a good anthology, Gordon!
By the way... Have you notice the subtitles of the Golden Box in episode 9 say something about "That Jeanette"?

Yes, I thought inmediately in your 'Jeanette' thread when I saw that... And there's another one, in ep.2 when Jerry talks about "Ginny and Jenny down by the river", I heard him saying inmediately "In the water" but the english subtitles say "Oh, no wonder". And BTW, d'oh! The grandson doesn't actually say that when Donna leaves, he says it before... Wrong answer, Gordon! What he says when he leaves is "It seems like good food", right Henry?

The second sentence of the series was a bad omen of this kind of nonsense dubbing mistakes...
PETE: "We have southern wind..."
