so i need to get some things straight...i know the open-endedness of lynch but i want to know any message... what does the giant mean when he says "one and the same"? does the doppleganger cooper catching up to normal cooper signify his "posession"? does cooper sacrifice himself for annie? does this justify his purity? perhaps an allegory to Jesus? shouldn't he be going to the white lodge? from what i understand cooper also becomes host for bob. when he smashes his head into the mirror is he killing himself to get bob out? does he die? would he be going to the white lodge then? it wasn't the kind of ending i was expecting. i am really upset that i'm not very good at understanding some symbolism and surrealism. someone help me out please!

Welcome, Igor! The following are just opinions, so please take them anyway you like. :) First off, I think watching Fire Walk With Me will definitely give you some of the answers that you seek. Personally, when the Giant says, "One and the same" I think he is referring to himself and the elderly room service waiter. Because in the end of 29, first the waiter is there, and then, BOOM! It's the Giant. And anytime the waiter shows up, the Giant usually shows up a few moments later. His medium. I think Cooper is already fighting Bob *but from within the Black Lodge--not the white, that comes later--since it is Coop's doppelganger that is actually possessed.* Coop's soul is what is trapped in the Black Lodge. Does that make sense? This is why I think he smashes his head into the mirror---makes me think of Leland at the sheriff's station. But was it Bob trying to get out, since Leland's soul/body was "weak and full of holes", or was is it Leland trying to get Bob out of him? Perhaps it was a mix of both. No, I don't believe Coop's doppelganger would have died...he was still laughing like a maniac--probably had a headache, but that was it. It was more of a strike against Dale's soul--as anything that the doppelganger did in Coop's place would do. A thread from a while ago spoke of metals on Coop's jacket in the famous dream sequence *which takes place 25 years in the future*...and it was discussed that these could have possibly been given to Dale in a failed attempt by Major Briggs to free him from his red walled prison. The theory was that they provided protection to Dale from anything and everything the lodge throws at him. Watch Fire Walk With Me...the end especially will help pull some things together. :)

-Giant says "one and the same because he is the inhabbiting spirit of the waiter guy". this is made clear long before the last episode. - Doopelganger Catching up with Cooper means the Doopleganger escaped from the lodge, and Cooper himself stayed in the Black Lodge - I feel Cooper does sacrafice him self for Annie. Or, atleast that was the idea I held onto most after I first saw the last episode. But, I have come to also see it as Cooper didn't pass the test of the Dweller on the Threshhold. And so he is trapped in the lodge. - That sums up your questions I guess. But yeah, Rocky is right. See FWWM. That is the key to finishing the story. it is a prequel, but that's of no consequence.

ok i just watched FWWM. that is what i thought of the giant thing at first but i then thought there might be some other hidden message behind it. some things i need clearing up for: "with this ring i thee wed"? is the masked guy at the meeting just an anonymous spirit or is he actually significant? the part where annie appears in laura's bed. does her saying that the good dale is trapped in the lodge mean that he has been posessed by bob for a while? doesn't he get trapped in the lodge in the last episode, which is way ahead of when laura lived? or does this prove the non-parallel times for the lodges and the "real world"? when bobby kills the drug dealer, why does laura keep saying that he killed "mike"? why isn't mike the one armed man shown at the meeting? what does the whole camera thing in the FBI headquarters mean. why is coop still in the monitor when he isn't in the view of the camera? does this represent unordinary phenomena in the presence of Phillip? i also noticed that when coop and gordon go look in the monitors to see if phillip was there or not, that there is someone walking in through the doors in the right monitor. it kind of looked like phillip. anyone else notice this? significance of the dog barking when the one armed man yells at leland and laura in the car? significance of "the black dog runs at night"? i'm sure this has all been discussed but i haven't read through everything in the forum yet. it would be great to hear some thoughts on these questions.

it's reasons like the above post that the tragedy of the old board crashing really sets in. I remember the days when all these questions could be answered by linking to all the places where they were discussed. Now we actually have to type out all our thoughts again.
For your sake ig0r, I hope there is someone out there willing to put forth some effort. I'm just lazy.

Well, work was cancelled, so as it turns out, I am going to be the one who puts forth the effort after all. I'll do my best to answer all these questions. *possible spoilers for anyone who hasn't seen everything*
-the "with this ring, I thee wed" explanation can be found on the second page of the "list of questions..." thread. I just made a post about this same thing -the masked guy at the meeting, sometimes referred to as The Jumping Man, has plenty of theories wrapped around him. Some say that he represents Leland. The main point to note is that he is clearly BOB's toy. There is some point where BOB makes some signal, perhaps it is when he claps, and the Jumping Man jumps up onto the top of a box and stands still. He seems to be under BOB's control. One way or another, he is the helpless fool to all those at teh meeting. -Annie appearing in Laura's bed: in the same way that Laura had dreams about meeting Cooper in the Lodge long before he ever came to twin peaks, this is Laura's dream where she is contacted from Annie from the Futrure. this ties into the non-linear time of the lodge. She is saying "the good dale is in the lodge...etc" because the Doppelganger got out, and the good Dale Cooper is still trapped in the lodge. Annie telling Laura to write it in her diary plays into some idea that eventually, it will be discovered in the future, and people will realize what's happening. -It has long been disputed why Laura says bobby killed mike. Some say it is just because Laura is on drugs and drunk ad is confused by the blonde hair. And it is a clever way for Lynch to play with the similar names, and toy with the struggle of BOB and MIKE. Other's say it is something to do with bobby cutting mike out of the drug deal that is currently going on. And other's probably say something else. I don't know. -MIKE not being in the meeting.... I gave my piece on this in another thread too.... -the scene with Cooper's image still being frozen on the screen might have something to do with the distortions of time, brought on by the arrival of Phillip Jeffries. -and after that............. you ask questions about dogs. I can't help you there. THIS POST WAS A LABOR OF LOVE TO HELP RE-STOCK THE NEW GAZETTE WITH THEORIES. I hope it was not done for nothing.

Just so that you know, we will be migrating over the TP/FWWM and DL forums from the old board to this one. We just need to write the code in order to do it. Not sure how long it is going to take, so thanks for your labor of love MSA.

I think Cooper don´t sacrifice himself. Of course, when he´s talking with Windom Earle, I agree with you: he´s sacrifying himself. But after, when Bob appeared in the red room and kill Windom (or take his spirit), Cooper run away. Try to run away, but his evil reverse caught him and, after, we see that Cooper is possesed by Bob. But I have some things that I don´t understand. First: when Josie Packard dies, what she becomes? Another ghost of Twin Peaks? But she seems to be apprisioned by something... after all, she´s not a bad girl, and I think she, after death, appeared to talk with the character of Ben Horne, isn´t it? When Josie dies, Harry S. Truman seems to we possesed by Bob. But it didn´t happened. In one moment of the serie,I don´t remeber who was, but one character tells to Cooper that he´s a good guy, a man guide by the white lodge (I think was the mayor Garland Briggs), and he would never be bad. So, I can´t understand why if someone tells Cooper that, how he could finally be another possesed of Bob? Obviously, Twin Peaks needs a third season to resolve this problems...

I am in the process of finishing my second complete chronological viewing of the entire series. I have only seen the last episode once, but I remember feeling incomplete, like it wasn't over. I am curious to see how I feel about it this time. its been about 6 years since my last viewing.
Anyone else feel empty at the end?......I always secretly hope that lynch would resurrect TP for one last 3 hour moton picture finale, but Im sure thats just a pipe dream for me...........maybe we could organize a world wide raley for the cause????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I remember the night the last episode aired...I sat there for at least 15 minutes just staring at the tv, jaw on the floor. Then I Tazzed out because there would be no more. While Fire Walk With Me is a nice ending for some, I feel the need for more. I have been working on a long story just for fun that takes place right at the end...have so many ideas on what could have happened. I really would have loved to see Coop as not such a nice Coop...Kyle does villains so well---that would have been something. Don't get me wrong---Coop is my favorite, but I think Kyle would have aced that dark side.

The title is escaping me right now, but Kyle plays in this goofy sci fi where he's possessed by an alien and he gets off on listening to heavy metal on this super size ghetto blaster while running people over in his stolen ferari he accquired after snorting tons of coke off of the car salesmen he shoots.....I want to call this movie "the hidden" ...........ring any bells.....???

I have never seen the movie but its on his bio on IMDB. Here's a summary: The police are hunting a man, who has committed several crimes, mostly auto theft. They eventually captured but not after a long chase and only after he crashes his car and is burned. At the hospital, the man rises and then proceeds to the man in the room with him. He then proceeds to open the man's mouth and a creature comes out of his and enters the man. The man then stands up and walks out of the hospital. An FBI agent goes to the police and says he is looking for the man they just caught. When he goes to the hospital, he takes a photo of the man and gives it to the police and says that they have to find him. After a long chase, the detective, who is frustrated, arrests the FBI agent and demands to know what is going on. He says that he is an alien and that the people they have been pursuing have each been taken over by an alien that he is pursuing.

I also remember the first time I saw the final episode. When it was over, it was pretty late, but I went out to run. I just didn't know what to do, I felt so empty inside. I kept on running for a few miles, until I came to a river. I sat there for about half an hour, watching the water, thinking about everything I had just seen and returned home, very tired. But I still couldn't sleep. I haven't seen the final episode again, because I wanted to wait for the dvd's. But it's driving me insane. It's taking so long. Anyway, the last episode probably affected me the most.

I love this episode. It's probably my favorite in the series. I'm so glad that Lynch finally returned and pulled the series back together for one last amazing episode. FWWM somehow does kind of complete the ending... even though it's not totally satisfactory. Btw Cooper isn't old in the final scene of FWWM...so he probably just saves Laura's soul at some point while he's trapped in the lodge... However it's probably best not to overdiscuss that amazing final scene...
That god damn trailer's more popular than Uncle's Day in a whorehouse!

i still don't believe that the last episode was meant to be the definative ending. FWWM puts a better final note to the series, even though that's only choronologically the end as far as Coop's journey goes. They were though, planning a second film, and if you hunt around you can find hints as to what would have happened there had FWWM been a hit. Only really vague hints as I recall, but it would have followed on from the end of the series. We know a third season was planned, and we know a second film was planned. Lynch probably suspected when he made the last episode that that might be it, but the numerous cliffhangers second to Coop's story (which does meet something that could certainly be seen as a final end) make me suspect that he was still aiming the story to be continued into a third series.
