DL has just been awarded the most prestigious honour available to artists who are non-French citizens. Here is the link:

I guess the French have forgiven DL for "The Frenchman and the Cowboy".

I haven't.

I couldn't even finish watching it a first time. Biggest pile of crap. They even managed to spell Frank Silva's name wrong ("Franck Silva"). I'd rather have had an extended screen adjustment (the director's cut) than that shaming piece of crud. Only time I've ever felt embarrassed by DL - no TP episodes were ever worthless and besides, fans could always blame scriptwriters and non-DL directors, for TP dips.

I love the bit where they're going through the Frenchman's briefcase, and Slim keeps saying "What the hell?" after every item, and the poor reading of the letter aswell. Apart from that, yeah, it's not too great. I just love Harry Dean Stanton and Jack Nance in anything.

Oh yeah, well done Mr. Lynch!

That and the repeated "what?" are great.

The Cowboy and the Frenchman worked for about five... maybe ten minutes due to the sheer awesomeness of Harry Dean Stanton, but even he couldn't keep that ridiculous and incredibly cheap (looking) production afloat for longer than that... Just goes to show that Lynch is hopeless when it comes to straight comedy. He's better off sticking to his bizarre brand of humor intermixed with disturbing scenes, which makes them so much more effective... he really pulled that off well in Inland Empire.

That god damn trailer's more popular than Uncle's Day in a whorehouse!
