Did anyone of you see that Bergman's masterpiece titled PERSONA? You have to...As soon as you can. Well, I think that these two films share the same theme: a woman who enters into another inner world, different from hers, and confuses herself with it so much to forget who she is and so she breaks her conscience into mental pieces.... I have to tell you that the subtitle of INLAND EMPIRE in Italy is IMPERO DELLA MENTE, which seems to be a bad translation of INLAND EMPIRE and means EMPIRE OF THE MIND....An inner empire, an inner temple, or something like that. That was what italian translators want to suggest. Sonia

Must you? I must argue that this connection was first pointed out about 8 months ago, and most ppl here have already shared their thoughts on the matter. Yes, there are links between IE and Persona, just as there are links between IE and Sunset Boulevard and about a dozen other movies.....
Try searching through the older threads. Just a suggestion.
Has he taken his eyes off it yet?

Yes, Mulholland Dr. definitely has more connections with Persona. And Thisisthegirl was rude although he said quite a few things that made the point very clear. Some movies by Bergman can't not be influences on Lynch's filmography, in both aesthetical and narrative/non-narrative terms. There is so much of Bergman in Lynch.
