Who did you think had killed her and why? Its interesting, I cannot remember who I originally thought had done it, but now I have finally got my fiancee to watch TP with me, he absolutely adores it and it is a joy to see his expression as the episodes go by, all the new info he has to sort out! At the moment he thinks Ben Horne is the killer (we are on episode 12). Its so difficult not explaining too much that I give too much away.

I was only 8 years old when I first watched tp, first time it aired in Sweden. I remember my mom and my sister trying to make me tell who i thought murdred Laura and I do have a vague memory of me saying Ben Horne. Some week later my sister had spoken to some of her friends in Germany and they were some episodes ahead, of course they told her that Leland/Bob was the murderer. Then she told me, just to tease me, and I remember that I was so upset with her...I sooo hoped she was wrong, cause I kinda liked Leland...damn, sisters can be a real pain in the ass! =P

Yeah i had a strong idea who was responsable for Lauras death. I was only about 10 when i first watched it but thought it was fairly obvious as soon as Lelands hair turned grey and started acting unusually strange (dancing, singin, being generally happy) after his daughters death. I also knew BOB had some part of the killing as i couldnt find another purpose for him to be in the show. Unfortunatly for me when i split up with my ex girlfriend years ago she took my VHS box set with her so havent seen the show for 4 years. Ive already placed my order for the new Gold edition and cant wait!!

I remember during the pilot episode, I told my boyfriend at the time "It's probably her f**king father...nobody would really suspect that, would they?" But up until episode 7 and Jacques' death, I sorta thought it was Jacoby because the guy was just so damn creepy about stuff. And then after episode 7 I was like "Oh hell, Leland so has something going on..." and Ben Horne hit my radar hard at that point, so I changed from believing it was Jacoby to being torn between Leland and Ben, until somewhere around ep 12 I decided it was definitely Leland. I probably should have stuck with my gut instinct during the pilot. But it was more fun wavering over who was acting suspicious and whatnot.

I was browsing the FAQ on twinpeaks.org after watching episode 2. I came across this little nugget: E17. Who Killed Laura Palmer? As revealed in episode 16, Laura was killed by her father, Leland Palmer, under the influence of BOB. D'oh! I spent the remainder of the time wondering, "who the hell is BOB, and what does it mean by 'influence'?" Luckily I stopped reading right there.

I first thought the killer was...Leland. He was strange, white-haired like Bob, he was always dancing and singing like an obsession and reminded me continuosly the words "fire walk with me" and Cooper's dream (there's a moment in the dream in which the little man says that the misterious place is always full of music). In the funeral scene, Leland falls onto his daughter's grave keeping on crying, the grave goes up and down and I remember I thought this could mean that the father had sexual relationship with his daughter....A perverse mind isn't it? I was 16 when I saw the serial in the italian tv...At least, Ray Wise's face is quite psychotic... Sonia

I got the soundtrack before I saw the whole show. The inside cover has a list of the characters, including "Killer Bob" :/

I've made every guy I've dated long term watch the show and only one ever guessed the killer, and he guessed it straight away. He had a great mind for details, but it wasn't anything specific that gave it away. Watching FWWM first gives the unfolding of the series a greater sense of dramatic irony.

Back in then I thought it would have been Dr. Lawrence Jacoby! And I thought that it was really Laura who came to the funeral as a Maddy. I was so sure that the first victim would have been Maddy with blonde hair and so on. I was wrong!

Loola, you're lucky. Only one guy I've ever been with could tolerate it. He decided who the killer was (accurately) within the first few episodes, and never changed his mind. He remembered who all the characters were after 8 months, too. (Aside from these instances, he was kind of dumb, so he had to go.)

My first time through the series began with episode one--and I thought maybe Leo was the killer. I watched the pilot somewhere between ep. 2 and 3, and knew right then that Leland did it. I re-watched the series this summer with two of my friends. First one questioned everyone in the series at some point, and didn't know it was Leland until the whole "crying on the floor with the sprinklers on" scene. Second one knew it was Leland after the opening credits, and was pissed off that the sheriff/Coop didn't question him straight away.

I really suspected Ben in the beginning...right up until about episodes 6 and 7, when it went over to Leland. And this may be sad to admit this, but for a fleeting moment in the pilot, there was a shred of doubt about Harry. The reasoning for this is when Pete calls and says, "She's dead...wrapped in plastic..." Harry says, "Where?" Not, "Who?" And I was like, "What, does he already know?" Granted I was 11 at the time, but still...LOL. :) That shread was quickly evaporated by the middle of the pilot. Eric guessed it right straight from the pilot. Figures. :D

It was so much fun during it's first run not knowing who it was and being suspicious of everyone. I always thought Leland was weird and creepy, but I think the main person I suspected was Ben.

I am still not sure who killed Laura. Was it Leland or Bob? Would it had been fair if Leland did not die and got convicted of killing his daughter? How much responsibility should we put on Leland concerning the raping and killing of Laura and how much responsibility should we delegate to Bob? Could Leland have prevented some of the actions that he did under the influence of Bob? Another question is if you interpret Bob in a symbolical way, as a symbol for the evil that men do.... Then he's no longer a spirit but a part of Lelands psyche and than it would be Leland who was responsible for all those horrific acts?
This is a sentence and you are reading it now.

I don't know why...but for some reason after seeing episode 1 when Donna went to visit Sarah and Leland in their house,I knew( i kinda had a strange feeling)that the killer was the long-haired scary man from Sarah's vision, who was kneeling behind Laura's bed (they didn't mention his name's BOB till some episodes later) I also agree that Leland (Ray Wise) has a psychotic face..but I never suspected him till the moment I saw him putting those creepy white gloves, looking at the mirror,etc...(the episode when he killed Maddy) before that I was just thinking he went crazy ,because of Laura's death. When I saw the Ronette's vision in the hospital,I was more than sure that the killer was BOB. I never suspected Leo,Ben,Jacoby or anyone else..I thought..."No..it would be too easy if the killer was Leo,or Ben,or Bobby or whoever.." BOB (Frank Silva) had a face of a real killer!:))
Beware of BOB

When I call out no one can hear me,when I whisper he thinks the message is for him only..my little voice inside my throat,I always think there must be something that I've done or something I can do...But no one no one comes to help,he says,a little girl like you...

I didn't know who killed Laura but, I remember my wise sister saying " He's the killer. " at the funeral scene when Leland jumped on the coffin and the coffin with Leland laying on it went up and down.

I assumed it was Leland Palmer very early in the series and concluded this later. Things that gave me this idea were the pilot episode when Leland receives the call from Sarah I thought 'why does she know that something has happened?' Also, as mentioned above, the funeral scene where Leland jumps on the coffin, Sarah then says 'Don't ruin this too.' I thought 'something is definately wrong in the Palmer house.' I think I concluded this thought later when the one-armed man is being interviewed by Cooper, Trueman and Cole. After not giving Gerard his 'medicine' he turns into [or however you wish to interperet this] Mike. Cooper asks where Bob is now and Mike responds about the 'large place occupied by different souls night after night'. This of course is after the scene of Leland and Ben doing the 'Getting To Know You' duet at the Great Northern. What an ironic choice of song' I thought. Ha ha ha. Anyone else get similar ideas from these scenes?

As jamie6886 mentions, the scene where Ben and Leland are singing "Getting to Know You" takes place at the Great Northern Hotel. Mike then says to Cooper, "a large woorden house surrounded by trees..." and I agree with you, jamie6886, that Mike is referring to the Hotel, where Ben and Leland are dancing. Later on, Mike circles around Ben and says, "BOB has been close to this vessel". He means that Leland has been dancing with Ben, and BOB's "presence" can still be detected on Ben. So I would definitely agree with jamie6886's thoughts on this matter.

The first time I watch TP I was torn between Leo and Dr. Jacoby. Leland had not even entered my mind. Back in 1990, Michelle (my daughter) was still in diapers and the thought of a father harming a child was absolutely unthinkable. BTW Michelle turned 18 on 9 Jan. Wow, the years have flown by.

I thought it was like 20 different people, every episode gave me some reason to think it was someone else. By the time we found out who it was I was leaning towards Leland, Leo or Jerry Horn.

As soon as they started talking about BOB, I figured... well, it's Bob, whoever that is. I thought the mystery was "who is Bob and how was he connected to Laura?", not who did it per se.
The question is, Where have you gone?
