I've heard some allegations that D.L.'s latest feature was actually inspired by a Wonderful World of Disney made for TV flick called The Outlandish Umpire. It was only aired once & has never been on video (& has been mostly forgotten). It concerned a cursed little league game that was never finished, as the umpires kept being injured in bizarre ways. It starred Dean Jones, Tommy Kirk, Fred MacMurray & Annette Funicello, with Don Knotts, Imogene Coca & Tim Conway as a family of bunnies living just beyond the outfield. More baffling details to follow...

Or maybe Cut?
A group of film students attempt to finish a horror movie that stopped production years earlier when the director was killed. Unaware that every attempt to complete the pic coincided with the murders of those involved, the students return to the original location in an isolated part of the country. When filming begins, so do the killings.

Oh my god, I actually saw Cut. What a pile! And yes, when I tried to give my bf a one line plot synopsis for IE, that's pretty much what it sounded like. Of course, I had to mention MD characters in rabbit costumes. He watched for a minute and said, "oh it's another one of those where she doesn't know if she's in the movie or not? Blah, blah. David Lynch movies suck." (The only one he likes is Dune, except for Lynch's creative touches, like the boil popping. But I digress...) IE is about creating a feeling of being lost and confused, like Nikki is (and Dern was, apparently.) Put that in a plot teaser!

Ugh. I actually just watched Cut last week. Made me wish I'd cancelled my Showtime subscription earlier. My copy of IE just arrived a few days ago but I have yet to find the time to sit down and watch it. I want three solid uninterrupted hours to absorb the film. None of that stopping to go to school/work/the store crap. I'm thinking Labor Day might actually be the perfect day for it. Woo!
