Thanks a lot for that, Rainbow!

I will have to think some more about this, but right now I can't say I'm convinced. It seems a bit far-fetched, especially the bit where Jeffries points at Cooper. I think it's more likely that that's a reference to Cooper's future possession, given that Jeffries went to the Convenience Store and met the Spirits it's likely he knew about the possession.

But it's definitely an intriguing theory and food for thought!

QUOTE:

No, this is not the script being referenced.

He refers to an "original script" that does not mention the Blue Rose and does not include Agent Desmond, but has Cooper with Desmond's lines.

This is not the widely circulated version.

I realized that after I posted the link.

No, it's not widely circulated but I did read that one (it's the same one where Cooper and Laura have sex, too.)

Cooper and Laura have sex? Blimey. Now I'm intrigued...

Cooper having sex with Laura makes no sense - He wouldn't have sex with Audry because she was part of an FBI investigation while on the Laura Palmer murder case so he wouldn't with Laura either while on the Teresa Banks murder case. Aside from that, I'd take Audry over Laura any day.

Interesting... (And, it must be said, somewhat peturbing). Thanks, Rainbow!

No problem. :)

LODGE4, the scene was Laura's dream.  It could have been bad Coop somehow seducing her, but it more sounds like this is the way Laura shows men gratitude.

Maybe it loses its charm in translation and summary, but I would hardly call that theory "conclusive."  It seems speculative at best, even though there are some interesting points raised.

Also, do real world copies of this "original script" exist somewhere, such as a film or media library, for example?  It seems a shame if such a resource were only available to fanboys with ebay accounts.

I'm a fanboy with an Ebay account and I don't have a copy... I suddenly feel my long and fulfilling relationship with Ebay has been nothing but a lie!

I've been racking my brain trying to remember where I first read about the original script. I know it was discussed at length in Wrapped In Plastic's Dreams of Deer Meadow article, so that's probably where I read about Laura's dream. I personally thought it was a horrible idea and I'm glad it was dropped.

I also remember reading about a trailer for FWWM that showed Bob laughing in the woods. It sounded amazing and I can't remember if it was actually filmed or not. If it was made I'd like to see it even more than the deleted scenes. Again I suspected it was mentioned in Wrapped In Plastic.

P.S. I've just looked at that old thread and 12rainbow's post must have been where I first read about the dream.

No, it's not really conclusive. But it's the closest thing to it I've seen.

And as far as I know, this hasn't ever been on eBay. Beymer gave it directly to him.

EDIT:  I've received a number of pm's about my sources.  This is one of those scripts Lynch did not intend for public eyes (like his opinion of the leaked MD pilot?) and so the cast and crew that got copies respected that. In order to find it, you would have to hunt those individuals down and bother them (good luck!)

I don't know where John Thorne of WIP read his copy, but the person whose copy I read wishes to remain anonymous.

Do the majority of fans believe the Deer Meadow prologue is a Cooper dream sequence or really happening?  From what I've read it sounds very plausible and made me look at the scene in a totally different light.

I don't think fans who weren't readers of Wrapped In Plastic had even heard of the theory. Personally, I think when you say "I believe this absolutely..." about any Lynch film, the odds are stacked against you.

I never used the word absolutely.

Lynch is so abstract it's hard for anyone to pick up on what certain things mean in his films.  Wrapped in Plastic 60 has the article and it is very cool.  I am not affiliated with WIP, just love the mag.

I've yet to watch the film in this new frame of mind, but the idea has merit!  The idea has merit!
