Is it me or David Lynch has got some kind of fetish for old people, I mean, at least some of them? He seems to be fascinated with a certain idea of old age folks. I also would like if he could talk about it, now that he himself is becoming quite ancient...

Lynch (who is only old enough to be a young grandpa) fetishizes all sorts of things. Particularly handicaps and deformities. At the risk of sounding ageist, the decrepit eldery are nearly handicapped/deformed. Their bones are creaky and collapsing, they walk slowly and carefully, (Dell Mibbler, Senor Droolcup, Alvin Straight, the woman at the nightclub in Wild at Heart, and so on...) their vocal chords are dusty so everything that comes out of their mouths sounds interesting. And like the handicapped, they are marginalized by the rest of society.
Spunky, active elderly people are good subjects, too. Because they go against expectations we have of "old people." Think about Mrs. Tremond. You assume she's bedridden, and then you see her up and about in the Double R parking lot, well dressed and poised- and all of a sudden she seems much more powerful than the woman who gave Donna those ominous messages from under the covers. It may also go along with Lynch's interest in secrets. You have this body that's more or less a decaying relic of it's former beauty, hiding this mind with a rich history- that's still beautiful in it's own way.

Well I totally agree with what you're saying. I am fascinated as well by these characters, they seem to carry more inside of them and the change of pace they impose create the right mindset for what David is about.

Watched WAH again yesterday, there's a few old people in that: The black guy clicking his fingers who blows kisses at Lula Guy with really high voice played by Freddy Jones Woman walking with her arms out and a bizarre look in her eyes after the end of the Freddy Jones scene Really old guy who is ordered out by Santos and bears a resemblance to Senor Droolcup (that is the old guy in TP, who the giant takes over, right?)

That's not Senor Droolcup, it's actually Dell Mibbler...
That god damn trailer's more popular than Uncle's Day in a whorehouse!

Not to forget the singer in the waiting room (Jimmy Smith I think?)
