I don't follow pro wrestling but Chris Benoit was apparantly deeply troubled.

"Several Atlanta-based law enforcement sources have told TMZ Benoit may have strangled his wife on Saturday, then smothered his son in his bed a day later. Investigators refuse to officially comment, pending final confirmation by the coroner on the cause and time of the deaths. One source told TMZ that Benoit was texting friends during Sunday's WWE "Vengeance" Pay-Per-View program -- possibly watching the show with his son, who may have been alive at the time. According to sources, Benoit then hanged himself Monday in a weight room inside the family home."

"The physical findings announced by authorities indicate deliberation, not rage. The wife's feet and hands were bound and she was asphyxiated, not beaten to death. By the account of the authorities, there were substantial periods of time between the death of the wife and the death of the son, again suggesting deliberate thought, not rage. The presence of a Bible by each is also not an act of rage."

I saw some statistics on professional wrestlers and their mortality. I don't remember the stats exactly but, about 30 pro wrestlers died by 35 years old. Others died by 45. That is one profession I would avoid like death itself. Maybe  I'll Google for some acurate statistics.

“From my 17 years in the business, I know probably 40 to 45 wrestlers who dropped dead before they were 50,” said Lance Evers, a semiretired wrestler who goes by Lance Storm. “It’s an astronomical number.”

This is such a sad and tragic story. I've met a couple of folks who have been in the wrestling world but they were always reluctant to speak about the true inside workings of the "sport". I guess i needed to know the secret handshake or something. But its obvious that there is something very wrong in when so many wrestlers are dying before the age of 40. I hope the wrestling world can clean up their own act and police themselves.

It was reported that the doctor responsible for giving Benoit many of his prescriptions (illegally) had his home and office raided and was arrested.

What blows me away is that the wrestling organization allegedly cancelled performances and ran tributes to the guy when the news broke.

I'm not a wrestling fan so I don't know Chris Benoit, but I realise steroids and other illegal drugs are rampant in that industry.

The bible detail is particularly disturbing! Like maybe he felt he was doing God's work or something (sick) like that?(!)

Was he known to be delusional/psychotic?

Yes, that placing of Bibles must be some kind of sick apology? I don't get it-it is as you say some pyschotic, sick gesture.

What a crazy f---tard.

You just can't live that long pumping your body full of so much crap - steroids, constantly overloading on carbs etc.  Did they blood test him to find out what else he had in his system - ice etc?

Must be a hell of an existence - from the lows and hard work of the gym, to the adulation on show night, and then somehow you have to get your head right for normal family life before you get home.  Weird, and hard to comprehend unless you've lived that up-down, chemical-filled, extremely artificial existence.

The Bibles?  I'm guessing he wanted the best for them, and thought death was the best for them for some reason.  The Bibles would indicate to me that he wanted them to go to Heaven, and he somehow vainly thought that having the Bibles nearby might help.  Just a guess.   (he could've also just been another mind-screwed atheist bent on revenge against his peaceful wife and child - and thus indicating why they were killed by leaving the good book next to them...?   >no bites Raymond - geez, I'm just joking!!<)

I know some of these pumped-up types like to rip phone directories in half to show off their strength. Maybe he was going in a more "blasphemous" direction with his bibliotearing... Better he should've let  off steam like those colorful gents who blow up & pop hot water bottles  for the Lord.  And why is it that he had to off his family too?  Suicide AND double murder?  Don't think a reunion's in the offing...
