I know some time ago someone posted something about the same theme, but as there´s no "search" button in the forum I can´t find where that thread is. Just before Jeffries says "I´ve found something!" I hear something like this:

 - Helga, baby, damn, no, I´ve found something!

But in my FWWM Spanish dvd the Spanish subtitles say "¡No me abandones ahora!" which, in English, would be something like:

- Don´t abandon me now! I´ve found something!

Maybe I´m misuderstanding the words "Baby, damn, no" instead of some kind of a phrasal verb that could end like "....me down".... But, what do you hear?

Please, it´s something very important for me! What does the English subtitles say? What do you think you hear? I can´t stop thinking about that....

 Thanks in advance!

I never had a clue what came before "no, I found somethin'!" until I read what it was allegedly supposed to be ("Helga, baby, damn..."); now I hear that when the scene plays, and I accept it as being accurate.

No idiomatic phrases in there, as far as I know -- it's just what it looks like.  It's definitely an odd sentence, though.

I've always thought (maybe I'm wrong) this "Elga baby" thing to be a crappy translation of someone who made a transcript or closed captions and now is often considered to be true... If I'm not wrong the first source where "Elga" appeared was the closed captions from twinpeaks.org... Maybe "Elga" appears in some DVD version, but so does "Jeanette"...

As a curiosity I'll add that an old spanish dubbing (not the one featured in the Cameo DVD) translated the line as "Don't ignore me now, I found something!", which of course I'm not saying it's correct or is even phonetically accurate...but makes sense.

I wasn´t aware the "Elga" translation appeared in twinpeaks.org! That´s really curious.... Yes, the problem is that I try to imagine something that can sound phonetically very similar to "Elga, baby, damn, no" but I don´t find anything... I looked in the biggest Spanish-English dictionary I have at home all the possible ways of saying the verb "abandonar" just to see if, by chance, there was something that could be something with the preposition "down" but I haven´t been succesful... I´ll try to look what the options for the verb "ignorar" are, but I´m not sure if I´ll find something profitable... The only thing for sure up to now it´s that even for those whose mother tongue is English it´s difficult to understand what Bowie is saying exactly in that sentence...

Thanks for your answers!

What about that old thread we had once about "garmonbozia" meaning something backwards? "I saw Windom Earle", "I saw Mr. Bean in drag", something like that...

I do believe that the "Helga, baby..." line is in the shooting script. There, does that solve anything?

Well, I had imagined a crazy theory about that, but I have to concrete some aspects of it... I´ll post it someday, but, as I say, it´s not a theory to take it seriously....

In the shooting script, the line is: "NO, NO. I found something... in Seattle at Judy's... And then, there they were..."

Perhaps when they actually filmed the scene, David Bowie ad libbed, saying something like, "Hot damn, baby, no! I found something..." A more colourful expression. It's just an exclamation of frustration and anger, because he is trying to tell them something, but Albert keeps being sarcastic, saying sutff like, "And it's raining Post Toasties!" So, the already stressed, panicky Phillip Jeffries gets angry and start shouting in frustration!

Well, that one way of looking at it...
