Ok, I just got back from seeing INLAND EMPIRE.  I agree with many others that this will take quite a while and more viewings to digest.  I really liked it, especially the first half.  That was the easy part.  And I LOVE the dancing prostitutes!!!  Laura Dern was absolutely wonderful!  And the male leads didn't get as much screen time.  I didn't even notice the Digital Video effect.  It looked like a great movie to me.

I really don't understand the second half at all, but maybe when I read other people's reviews, it will help me "get it."  There were only 7 people in the theater when I went and everyone was totally silent.  I think I was the only one who laughed at the funny parts.  Only two of us sat through the credits, and I was surprised to see John Neff's name in them.  (I thought he got left out of this one.)  I really liked most of the music, and it was knd of humorous to hear David sing and play the lighting guy.  And the coffee bean remark of David's was in the movie, "I'm just full of beans..."  Too bad we didn't get samples of coffee.

That's all I'm going to say right now.  I really felt like standing up and clapping at the end!!!  It leaves tomorrow, but I can't wait to see it again!

Annie, and you thought it would never show in Omaha. I went to the I E site and there it was -right in your neighborhood. Omaha , Nebraska !  Glad you got to see it in the theatre. You say only a handful of people at the showing ? No walk outs ? But people walked when the credits started ?

I just saw it as well. Not a fan.  Clearly Lynch reused content from his website that he filmed what 5 years ago? Plus, was that the banana girl from his site too? And of course, Axxon N... which really a project fro  his site as it has been in development for again 5 years. The camera was annoyingly shaky through a lot of the movie.

The digital video was atrocious. 50% of the movie has blown out white levels.

A waste of a movie, I'll not recommend to anyone that they go see it.

That being said, the movie did show off Laura Dern's versatility.

I saw 'Inland Empire' on Monday and, well… I don't quite know what to make of it. The movie kind of sucks you in. It's almost as if you're being hypnotized. At least that's how I felt. I don't know, it's hard to describe. But on the other hand, when you keep 'IE' in perspective, it's just not a good movie! Yeah, the plot's messier than my room, but that's not even the problem. I don't get 'Lost Highway' either, but that's exactly the reason why I like it so much. No, my problem with 'IE' is that it's just way to lengthy! I swear to God, those were the longest three hours of my life! Some scenes were downright boring. There, I said it! I felt bored while watching a Lynch flick. Never thought that was even possible. I mean, the first third of the movie (you know, the one where things still made sense, kind of) was great, but most of the last third was a drag to me. Also, the plot just didn't go anywhere. The conclusion didn't "feel" like a conclusion at all.

I didn't dislike 'Inland Empire', but I certainly didn't enjoy it either. It's a very, very weird movie, even for a Lynch flick. Eventually, I'll see it again, just not in the near future. I hope the second viewing won't leave me with such mixed feelings, too.

No offence but I don't think people are entitled to give worthy comment until they have seen it more than once. I had similar feelings after my first viewing. You will find the 'boring' scenes exciting once they are viewed in context. IMO you can only give context to these scenes if you have seen it already and know what is going on under the surface. I really can't stress that point enough. First time for me was tough going, second time was absolutely thrilling.  DVD now please!

Uh... I only saw it once several months ago, and I got a lot out of it... I hate that when people say that you can't say you didn't like something till you've seen it more than once. If you didn't like it that's the last thing you wanna do. BTW I enjoyed it immensely.

That god damn trailer's more popular than Uncle's Day in a whorehouse!

IMO it is doing the film a great disservice by watching it once and then telling everybody how unnecessarily long & boring it is, when those who have watched it more than once know that these scenes are not unimportant to the overall story.

I thought I made it clear in my reply that this was merely my first impression of the movie and not my final opinion about it. There's no doubt that 'Inland Empire' is one of those flicks which need to be seen more than just once. That's why I said I intend to see it again.

Did you? 'Its just not a good movie' sounds pretty definitive to me!
