QUOTE:I think the murder scene in the car is actually a weak point of the movie, it's not as scary as what we imagined, and not half as scary as Maddy's murder. Kind of a weak climax, to me at least, since there are at least five scenes in the movie scarier than that one (which come earlier in the movie)... I'm surprised how few people have posted here, FWWM seems to be a favorite on these boards.

i actually think the way it was shown in the series was the stronger telling(when ronette finally wakes from her coma at the end of ep. 8) as that was the first time we were really shown how extreme BOB was/is/forever will be, and that he, in fact, was the killer. how that got past the censors baffles me, but at that time TP was still tops, so they probably had more leeway. i kinda think in FWWM, it wasnt much of a surprise that she would be murdered, as most of already knew that. its more of an anti-climax, a requiem, as befits the score music. i take it as more dramatic than scary or horrible.

This is not in any kind of order.

1. The scene with Laura and the angel

2. The scene "Prom Queen" scene with the men and Laura at the bar.

3. The scene with Laura and the spinning fan

4. The "turkey" scene with Laura and James.

5. The scene between Bobby and Laura.  It is when Bobby is jealous and she sweet talks him.

The whole film is great. I really love it, not only because it's one of his best, but I think it's the first Lynch movie I saw and I was too young to watch such movies. My parents had it recorded from Tv and they told me not to watch it, but I remembered some episodes of Twin Peaks from TV and how terrified I was by those freaky appearances of Bob in the series. I simply knew I wanted more of BOB. When I saw the movie the first time, it was late night... God, the way Bob appeared firstly from near the nightstand got me shocked for quite a few days! LOL. From that moment on, I've watched that film a lot of times. It really scared me and, man, I love the movies that shock and scare me. I was made that way.

Anyway, nobody seems to recognize that the whole sequence that introduces Laura's life in Twin Peaks and at TP High school is really the work of a master because it's simple, traditional and yet it tells so much of Laura and her friends, Donna, James, Bobby and Mike. It goes really deep and tells us what's going on between these people in a few minutes, while the series did try to compose that kind of frame in a way much longe period. The way Lynch used Laura's POV down the alley in front of Donna's house. The way they go downhill and then those all FADE INTOs, with them turning back and listening to the boys in the car, then Donna and Laura going upstairs at school and meeting with James. No words, just glances and gestures. The way Donna moves aside and then the scene where Laura goes into the ladies' room and snorts some coke. I mean, it's genius, because it's all done quickly and it's exhaustive and symbolic at the same time. And everything is done only with images and music, very few words. I think that's one orf the best sequences in the whole movie.

Pretty fucking good new friend. We could discuss it in agreement. The music is relevant in each moment. 6. children screaming, handcuffs  & a plane ride.

Eeeeeeeeh! You pine weasels, pls check which board you are starting new topics on! This for non-TP stuff. Jordan can't transfer topics so it's up to members to retain a modicum of discipline. If one starts putting pepper in the salt cellar then it will lead to chaos and the end of civilisation as we know it.

You

have

been

warned

(BTW "Modicum of Discipline" is the title of the next James Bond film.)

1. The whole Bowie/Convenience Store scene, LMFAP stroking the table is my highlight.

2. Laura's dream inside the picture, when the lighting changes at the finger click.

3. YOU STOLE THE CORN!

4. Laura's funny little dance for Bobby in the woods.

5. Rape a la BOB.

Jeez, but I could go on all day.

3. The room above the convenience store

4. Laura meeting the Log Lady and watching Julee Cruise

5. The scene where Leland goes into Laura's room and cries

On refection it's a very piscean top 5 - lots of crying! Which reminds me, if you believe the Twin Peaks trading cards the Palmer's are all water signs. Yay! I think...

Late to the party, but here are mine:

1. The Voice Of Love. I paged through enough of the previous posts to know that this is a cliche at this point, but that doesn't change my opinion one bit. It's not only my favorite scene in the movie, it's not only my favorite thing that Lynch has ever filmed, it's one of my favorite things ever filmed by ANYBODY. The first time I saw the movie, I sat in the theatre with my jaw hanging open as the final scene played out and my reaction has been pretty much the same ever since. It's beautiful, powerful, haunting and true. It tells you evrything you need to know without a word of spoken dialogue and it forever cemented Lynch in my mind as an unparalleled artist.

2. The Train Car. After the series ended and the movie was announced, I expected that when we got to the infamous train car it would be horrifying, bleak, tragic and disturbing. It was all those things. What I never expected was that it would also be...beautiful? But I should have expected it because that's Lynch. I don't know how he does that (again and again), I just hope he never stops.

3. "Is it true?" I don't know if anyone's mentioned this one in particular or if this even counts as a scene by itself, but when Laura looks at the angel picture on her wall and asks this question only to have the angel fade slowly away just before her death, I think it is one of the saddest and most touching things in the film.

4. "Questions In A World Of Blue" What can I say about this one that hasn't already been said? One of the most beautiful of the Lynch/Badalamenti/Cruise songs playing under a heartbreaking scene where we see through Donna's eyes as she learns just how broken her friend really is.

5. James and Laura. This scene of the two lovers in the woods, so reminiscent of the Pilot, is just a killer. Laura is so clearly at the end of her road, and she knows it, and she is utterly bereft of hope. I may be a manly man, but every time Laura says "Your Laura disappeared. It's just me now..." I shed a manly tear. Every time.

Jeez, I could list five more. Ten more. What a great fucking movie.

"What? Did your life pass before your eyes? Cuppa tea, cuppa tea, almost got shagged, cuppa tea..."

1/ the whole 'bang-bang' scene, from 'log lady' & the heavenly 'Questions in a...' to the 'partyland' sleaze laden duo of 'The Pink Room' and 'Blue Frank' and crossfade from the filthiest bar floor to the TP trees.  Not just my fav from FWWM but my fav section of any movie anywhere ever...its that brilliant and sublime, the contrast here is amazing.  The lighting, the sounds, the rythmn and the chaotic intensity...its hypnotic sensory overload, but its also as appealing as it is appalling...you're repelled and drawn in at the same time. (I can see why the trip to 'partyland' was left out, as it would've broken up this particular section.)

2/ the Jefferies scene and 'convenience store crowd' episode/flashback...crazy, yet crucial.

3/ Laura's walk to and last session at school (clock spins, tears etc) after she finds out about her Father, parts with a shot on her empty desk & chair that she'll never sit at again...brilliantly executed, tragic and sensitive.

4/ The look on Harry Dean Stanton's face after the old women passes the trailer...I think that look sums up the whole tragedy.

5/ The 'washing your hands' scene at the dinner table, with Leland and Laura...there is a great discord to this whole scene.

Anyway...might as well have put FWWM Start to Finish...its an artistic masterpiece.

And to add to what the prevoius poster has written 'WilliamTheBloody'...its the sheer combination of 'horror' and 'beauty' that really underlines this work (the 'one armed man' says the same in the documentary)...both in terms of sound (silence, dialogue & music) and image, some of the contrasts are mindblowing...Lynch is truly an exceptional artist in this medium, of that I've no doubt...his ability to combine/blend sound and image is imo, unsurpassed.

5. First Fat Trout trailer park scene. Love Carl.

4. Hap's Diner. That scene has a very distinctive mood for me. Love the slow pacing given by the music and the dialogue.

3. Laura's dream. Very interesting especially for the music and the way sound effects were used.

2. Pink Room. The lighting, the crazy loud music, the insane dialogue, and of course the very last shots of the dirty floor and the forrest. Breathtaking.

1. Laura's murder. The way the scene manages to be horifying and beautiful at the same time, definitely a Lynch trademark and one of the reasons I find his work so fascinating.
