Hey all.

Now, I know some people prefer to number the episodes 1-29 and some prefer the 1001, 2029 method.  We can chat about that too if you want.

What I'm really wanting to know here is how you guys number the episodes in relation to the pilot.  Lots of people--David Lavery, for example, in Full of Secrets--numbers the pilot as #1.  Now, the episode numbers I always remember start with the first episode afte the pilot being #1, so when I read his book I get all screwy.

If youre watching the show with someone who hasnt seen it before and they say "what episode is the killer revealed?"  If you are inclined to answer truthfully, would you say 14, 15, 2007, 2.07, or some other response (if we agree that we find out in the ep where Maddy goes back "to Missoula...MONTANA!")?

So, it's a completely pointless question, but I'm interested.  Personally, I hope that if Paramount does release a complete TP boxed set, they DONT number the pilot as episode 1 because it will mess with my mind.  :)

I always informe people that Episode #1 is the one AFTER the pilot. It often take's a while for the to get it, but when they do, they never forget it. So, to answer your question: I aleays say that Maddy is killed in episode #14 :)

Mine too!

I watched the series on TV first so the way they put it here (that is: Pilot is Pilot and then 1-29) is canon to me.

I have grown automatic associations in my mind ;-) :
Ep.26 - Windom talking about fawns in the White Lodge, ending with the dead guy in the pawn
Ep.11 - Hank gets a punch
Ep.19 - boring ;-)
Ep.25 - funny

and so on ;-)

The numbering 1-30 is quite easy to switch to, a simple plus one, but all the 2014s are  to me.

I grew up with my mother taping all the episodes (several times!) and of course she wrote numbers on the tapes: 1-30.

It took me some years to switch to the Pilot and then 1-29...it really doesn't matter eitherway, does it? As long as both parts know what they're talking about...I'm comfortable with both systems! =D

I have always adhered to the pilot, then episode 1-29 canon...I never really thought about how they will handle it on the DVDs...I imagine the second season DVDs will number the episodes 1-22 like most other TV series boxsets...

Well, I watched it on its original run on UK TV and so I've always called the pilot Episode 1. I'm pretty sure when it was aired, the announcer didn't say "and now, the pilot episode of Twin Peaks" - they simply said "here is a new series, Twin Peaks" - so naturally when I wrote on the video, I wrote episode 1. I could understand the insistence on calling it the pilot if one worked in TV, but I don't - so I'll always think of it as the first episode. With some shows (like, for example, The Office), the pilot can be seen as a seperate entity because it doesn't bear any relation to what follows, but this is emphatically not the case with Twin Peaks. It would be extremely confusing to start watching the show from the "official" episode 1 (as I'm sure the buyers of the Region 1 Season 1 boxset found), so it seems more reasonable to say that the show begins with the pilot.

Also, for a while I felt that some of the later Season 2 episodes were so bad that I wished it had ended at episode 15 (or 14 to some of you) and then somehow gone straight to the final episode, so it would have had this perfect symmetry - 8 episodes for each season.

As I get older, I'm not so intolerant of the weaker episodes of Season 2 - I'm just happy to be watching more Twin Peaks!

Has he taken his eyes off it yet?

That's strange, in Poland it was not only announced as a pilot but even the time of airing was different - Pilot came on a Saturday evening which has for years been reserved on the Polish TV for full-length feature films, and from Episode 1 on - even though it was just a week later - we had Twin Peaks on Friday evenings, which usually was series time.

I always regarded the pilot as a separate entity, then the episode numbering started.  Nice to know we all seem to agree on that point

My theory by A. Elk, brackets, Miss, brackets. This theory goes as follows and begins now. All brontosauruses are thin at one end, much much thicker in the middle, and then thin again at the far end. That is my theory, it is mine, and it belongs to me, and I own it, and what it is, too.
